[Bug Watch] Google Search Voice Commands For Setting Reminders Create Alarms Or Calendar Events Instead

nexusae0_voice_thumb1_thumb.png

A variety of users have begun reporting problems with setting reminders using voice controls in the Google Search app, with the end result being an alarm rather than a reminder. This does not occur when entering the same command with the keyboard, so it would seem to be a server-side issue. Either way, you will want to look out for this bug if you tend to use voice commands for this purpose, because you may be in for a rude awakening - literally.

The theme is exactly the same, but you get a few more dances and you get to hear a little more of “On The Regular” by Shamir. Check out the full video after the break.

HTC One M9 Reportedly Ready To Ship Out To Customers Following Finalized Software

HTC One M9 Hands On AH 20

HTC announced the all new One M9 at the beginning of this month during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, with rumors abound shortly after that they may be launching the device sometime towards the end of March, which would put it a couple of weeks ahead of the scheduled launch window for Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. While there is still no confirmation from HTC when they will be ready to launch the phone, LlabTooFer who is well known for being associated with many HTC leaks, is claiming that HTC seems to have finalized the software on the One M9 for “most regions,” and is now ready to ship handsets to customers.

One of the major rumors surrounding the flagship device is in regards to alleged heating problems with the One M9 due to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor being used inside of the phone. According to some posts(also rumors) on XDA that were linked in the comments of LlabTooFer’s tweet, HTC has overcome the overheating issue through an internal software update that addressed problems with the camera as well as the thermal heating. Whatever customers make of the overheating problem as of now prior to the phone’s launch, it would appear that HTC has figured out and fixed any potential issues and is ready to move forward with further production and beginning shipment.

This news if proven true still leaves much to the imagination, like all HTC’s planned launch regions, the actual launch date, and the confirmed pricing for any regions the One M9 will launch in initially. Some rumors continue to maintain that the end of March is the expected timeframe while others pin it for a launch around April 10th, and whenever the phone ends up releasing, customers can likely expect it to hit all major carriers here in the U.S. alongside multiple carriers in other major markets like the UK , Europe, and parts of Asia. Although no prices have yet been confirmed, the costs being speculated on suggest that it will end up costing around $650 at full price, which could end up being around $149-$199 with two year contracts.

Stormblade-Thumb At this point, we've all heard of Infinity Blade. It's the gorgeous sword fighting game that hit Apple devices in 2010 and blew people away with its effective use of touch controls. That series remains an iOS exclusive, so we've never seen an entry enter the Play Store.

Stormblade, from Kiloo—the makers of the insanely popular Subway Surfers, isn't the first Android title to draw inspiration from Infinity Blade.

Sony Makes Their Album App Available On The Play Store With New Updated Version Ready To Download

AH Sony Albums App-1

There was once a time when to get the latest version of a specific manufacturer app, you had to wait for the manufacturer to roll out an OTA update. Now, to a lot of people, these manufacturer apps will just be bloatware that you might not have wanted or asked for. However, some manufacturer’s offerings are not bad and have actually become popular badge of honor apps for their users to have. Well, the time is changing when it comes to manufacturer apps and it seems the latest trend is for manufacturers to upload their apps to the Play Store.

Of course, this does make sense from everyone’s point of view. For the consumer, it means they do not have to wait so long to get an update rolled out for the latest new version of their stock music player. For the manufacturer, this also means they do not have to worry about rolling out the OTA update until they need to. Not to mention, they can update apps in a much more individual way instead of one massive update. HTC have certainly been one to adopt the use of Play Store for their stock apps and have been routinely uploading them. In fact, it was only reported a couple of days ago that HTC had made available three more apps on the Play Store.

Well, following the trend, Sony have today uploaded one of their apps to the Play Store, offering users the ability to self-update when they want to. The app in question is the Album app which appears on most Sony Xperia devices and is essentially the stock Gallery app. As such, if you have not seen the update land on your device as of yet, then you can now push the update from the new updated app. This version is listed as 7.0.A.0.26 which seems to only be a small update from the previous version listed as 7.0.A.0.24. As such, there is nothing too monumental to note in terms of features with the update simply listing the now typical bug fixes and performance improvements. Either way though, if you want the latest version of the Album app then click the source link below.

Nexus 6 on T-Mobile now receiving Android 5.1 (build LMY47M)

Nexus_6_Dbrand_Skin

Nexus 6 owners on T-Mobile are now receiving their update to Android 5.1 Lollipop. The build number for the update — LMY47M — is actually different from builds we’ve seen rolling out previously, so hopefully nobody flashed those in an effort to get a jump on 5.1. The update weighs in at about 409MB and should hit your Nexus 6 any minute/day now.

Android 5.1 brings lots of smaller tweaks to Lollipop, with new “anti-theft” security features that prevent unauthorized use after a factory reset, new quick toggles, animations, a heap ton of bug fixes and VoLTE (WiFi calling is expected in a later update). If you haven’t received a prompt yet, you can manually check for the update by heading to Settings > About phone > System Updates > Check now. Good luck!

T-Mobile USA Ordered To Revise Employee Policies Over Organizing Into A Union

AH John Legere T-mobile TMO uncarrier T-Mobile US has this week been ordered to revise its policies after a labor agency judge ruled the business violated federal laws when it suppressed its employees’ efforts to organize themselves. T-Mobile banned employees from discussing basic workplace issues such as wages or joining a union. T-Mobile US had restrictive email policies and a confidentiality agreement within the employee handbook, preventing employees from talking to colleagues or the media about their policies, according to an administrative law judge for the National Labor Relations Board, Christine Dibble. She ruled that the policies were illegal and ordered T-Mobile to post a notice to the staff reaffirming their rights to form or assist a union and listing policies that T-Mobile is not allowed to enforce, something of a black eye for the business!

A statement from T-Mobile spokesperson explained that, “This is simply a ruling about a technical issue in the law that relates to policies that are common to companies across the country. There are no allegations that any employee has been impacted by these policies.” T-Mobile has been something of a disruptive influence on the US carrier market thanks to the Uncarrier project, which has ultimately pushed a price war onto the three other major networks, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless.

This ruling is good news for the Communications Workers of America union, CWA. The union has been involved in a long-standing dispute with T-Mobile US’ majority shareholder, Deutsche Telekom, over the rights of workers to join the CWA. Larry Cohen, CWA President, said: “This decision exposes the deliberate campaign by T-Mobile US management to break the law systematically and on a nationwide scale, blocking workers from exercising their right to organize and bargain collectively.”

This news is potentially very good for T-Mobile’s hardworking employees, as collective bargaining and the backing of a union brings important benefits including easier remuneration and conditions of work negotiation. For T-Mobile US, it could perhaps be bad news as they may be forced to pay a more competitive wage. It could be good news for the business as a more open and transparent organization could increase employee happiness.

Nexus 6 Devices Running On T-Mobile Slated For Unique Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA Build

AH Nexus 6 logo blue 4 Chris-33

T-Mobile has reportedly started rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop software as an OTA to owners of the Nexus 6 smartphone from Google and Motorola, listed coming in as build LMY47M, which is unique to T-mobile devices as far as the build number is concerned, although it doesn’t seem that there will be any T-Mobile specific differences compared to builds being pushed out for devices on other carriers. This update was scheduled to begin March 16th (three days ago) according to the T-Mobile support page, and lists that this is an OTA update which can only be downloaded from the pull down via WiFi and that OTA updates capable of being downloaded over the cellular network will push out at a later date. All that means is that users will need to be connected to a WiFi network for this software to come through to the device.

This update will include everything that we’ve previously covered as coming with Android 5.1 Lollipop, which includes the new device protection feature, HD voice, and the usual bug fixes and improvements to help with device stability as well as other somewhat more subtle changes. Sadly, users might also remember that Android 5.0 on some Nexus devices had a memory leak issue that seemed to have carried over with the update to Android 5.1 Lollipop, so users will want to watch out for that as it may appear. The good news is that Google has already acknowledged there was an internal fix for the problem albeit without a timeframe for when it will be pushed out to users.

Some users are already reporting getting the update as of now, and even though the update is listed by T-Mobile has having been scheduled for March 16th, updates takes days and sometimes at least a week before they come close to reaching all users of the device. Starting today and rolling through the weekend T-Mobile subscribers who own a Nexus 6 will want to keep an eye on their status bar for that update notification to appear. The T-Mobile support page doesn’t list the exact size of the software package download, but it’s good practice to make sure you always have plenty of space to make room for OTA’s when they begin to reach users.

Stay cool: HTC One M9 overheating issues have been fixed, now ready to be shipped

HTC One M9 OEM cases DSC08887

Earlier this week we wrote about the HTC One M9 experiencing some overheating issues. It was reported early on that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 had some problems with overheating, which is why the Samsung Galaxy S6 doesn’t use it. HTC’s Communications manager made sure to let everyone know that the One M9 was not running final software yet, which could explain the issues.

Now, a member of XDA forums is reporting that HTC has solved this spicy problem. His source with a One M9 received an OTA update with the changelog: “thermal improvements and camera improvements.” A Twitter user is also reporting that HTC has finalized software and devices are ready to be shipped. Just in time for the early April time frame.

This is all very good news, and it’s why you should never freak out about problems before a device is available in stores. When software and hardware aren’t meshing it can create problems like overheating. We’ll test the One M9 for ourselves, but at this juncture the overheating is not something to worry about. Stay cool, everybody.

Samsung Announce Rich Accessory Collection For Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge

We’ve seen rumors that Samsung are to work on their own collection of accessories for the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge handsets, due to be released in April. Some of these accessories are said to include Samsung’s identity system, which will allow the device to recognize that it is wearing an official Samsung accessory and could be used to change the behaviour of the device. Today’s announcement is a little different; Samsung have announced the “rich accessory collection” for the two new Galaxy S6 models. These new accessories are designed to allow customers “the freedom to customize their mobile experiences to fit their personal style while enhancing the beautiful and purposeful design of Samsung’s newest devices.”

On those two new devices, the S6 and S6 Edge, these are different from previous Galaxy S flagship devices in three ways. The first is that the devices are built from metal rather than plastic, so they should feel as premium and expensive as their price tags might imply. Second, neither device has a MicroSD card, instead Samsung is selling the device with a choice of 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB of internal memory. The S6 range use a new generation, high efficiency, high performance memory unit, which is many times faster than a MicroSD card slot but has the disadvantage that it’s impossible to swap out a memory card for another. The third difference is that the S6 and S6 Edge come with an internal, fixed 2,550 mAh battery, which is not considered to be user replaceable. This means that for the power user expecting to use all of the charge in the course of a day, he or she is going to need a battery pack (or a charger) to keep the Galaxy S6, whereas previous generation Samsung flagship devices had a replaceable battery.

The new premium accessories come from partners such as Burton, Swarovski, Montblanc, Rebecca Minkoff and Romero Britto. Younghee Lee, Samsung’s Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, said this on the matter: “Samsung has a long history of designer partnerships and an unparalleled understanding of how technology enhances fashion and how fashion inspires technology.” The new accessories will be available by the time the Galaxy S6 arrives in retail stores and includes a clear view cover, clear cover, S view cover, flip wallet, protective cover, wireless charger and external battery pack.

Ever since Google began releasing Android 5.1 OTAs last week, there has been a bit of confusion over build numbers. The first build to get released was LMY47D, which went out to international variants as well as US models with Sprint SIM cards. The next build to surface was LMY47E, which appears to be shipping on new devices sold by Verizon, who just launched Google's flagship in stores today.
