It’s one of our favorite HTC perks: getting a free bump in cloud storage for doing nothing. Back in the day, you may remember when HTC teamed up with Dropbox for bonus cloud storage after purchasing one of their devices. More recently, it’s Google supplying the cloud storage, offering up a bonus 50GB as part of the “HTC Advantage.”
Today, HTC announced that they’ll now be doubling that number, providing a grand total of 100GB of Google Drive storage on top of whatever you have now. The bonus applies to newer HTC devices like the HTC One M8, HTC One Max, HTC One Remix, HTC Desire 816, or HTC Desire 610.
In case you’re wondering, the additional bump in cloud storage is guaranteed for 2 years, after which you’ll need to pay up or simply make do with Google’s 15GB of free storage. When it comes to other devices, HTC says specific 2013 models (HTC One, HTC Butterfly S, HTC One Mini and HTC Desire 601) get a 25GB increase in Drive storage after upgrading to to Sense 5+ or 6. It’s not much, but better than nothing.
To claim your Google Drive storage, simply open the Google Drive app on your phone and redeem the offer that pops up. Those already enjoying the previous 50GB offer will only see a nice little 50GB bump. Cheers.

Welcome back to our Meet the Devs segment! In this piece we take a little time to get to know the people who really make Android what it is today and that is the app developers. In this week’s developer interview, we are talking to Andrew Kemeklis of AKWare.
Name: Andrew Kemeklis
Developer Name: AKWARE
Country: United States
Website: AKWARE Official Website
Google + Profile/Page: Andrew Kemeklis Google+
How many people on your team? 1
My name is Andrew Kemeklis and I am 13 years old app developer. I am the CEO of my company, AKWare, where I develop Android apps. AKWare is less than a year old and I created it with my dad.
I have been coding for 4 years, since I was 8. I have a lot of experience in Java development. I have been making Android apps for a little under a year, and I also have a good deal of experienced with Android development.
I know Java, BASIC, and python along with javascript, HTML, and CSS. I also have experience with Arduino. My dad taught me BASIC when I was 8. He also taught me about computer logic and then Java a bit later. I learned python with a book I got when I was about 10. Later, when I was 11, I got an Arduino board and a book. I had a lot of fun building robots that walked on 2 legs, 4 legs, ones that wrote my name, and ones that would ride around my room. Later, in the summer, when I was 12, I got a book about Android programming and I started developing Android apps. I wrote the apps in Java. Later I decided to use Phonegap, where you code in HTML5. There is a really great website called Coding Academy, where I learned javascript, HTML, and CSS. I would recommend it to beginning programmers.
I have little experience with design. I have never taken any design classes before. I like watching the different videos Android puts up about design and user experience, and they definitely help me with designing my apps. One of the videos that I found really helpful was about common Android UX flaws. This video was awesome and I learned a lot about what I can do wrong in my apps if am not using actual Android buttons.
CHiPMuNK, a game where you swipe up and down to move your chipmunk and try not to get hit by the flying acorns.
FlickMas, a game where you save Christmas by swiping presents back into Santa’s sleigh as they fall out.
St. David the King App, an app for a local church that shows mass times and reconciliation schedules, urgent church information, and lets you download sunday bulletins onto your device. You can even have mass times spoken to you.
Monroe Sports Center App, an app that lets users view schedules for all your basketball teams, and notifies the user of changes in schedule and for upcoming events
I display AdMob banner ads on the bottom of the screen in my game, CHiPMuNK.
I chose Android because it is a free to develop on, open platform and it is very popular and widely used. Android is over 80% of the smartphone market share. I don’t develop apps for iOS or Windows because they cost much more to develop on, and for iOS I would have to pay $99 a year to have put my apps up on the app store. Android just has a one time fee of $25 to create a developer account, and then after that you don’t have to make any yearly payments.
I really like the NBA Game Time app, since I am into basketball. I also love playing 2048.
Be creative and let loose your ideas! Don’t be afraid to try something new!
We want to thank Andrew for chatting with us in this week’s developer interview! If you’re a developer and this looks like something you’d like to do, check out our Meet the Devs form! We look forward to hearing from you.
If you've been thinking about getting a newer HTC phone, the company just gave you a little more to think about. HTC and Google have just doubled the amount of free Google Drive storage that new owners of the HTC One M8 and One Max receive when registering a phone, up to 100GB from the former 50. Even better, Verizon's HTC One Remix is good to go as well, and also gets 100GB of storage.

Earlier today we saw a few images of the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact leak out onto the interwebs ahead of Sony’s IFA event scheduled for tomorrow. While the Z3 Compact showed a wide range of colors — black, white, orange, and green — it seems Sony could have a color reserved solely for its bigger brother, the Sony Xperia Z3.
Shown in a leaked promo image for the device, the Sony Xperia Z3 is pictured with an interesting copper paint job, different from the usual gold/white color trend we’ve seen in recent months. What’s more is you’ll notice a still unannounced wearable featuring an E Ink display, rumored to launch as the “SmartBand Talk.”
No word on what kind of functionality Sony’s SmartBand will offer (looks more like a fitness band than full fledged smartwatch), but with an E Ink display, you can bet the selling feature will be on its battery life. We wont have to wait much longer before we learn more. Sony’s IFA keynote is tomorrow at 10AM PT, so stay tuned for more.
Verizon just isn’t ready to let go of their precious Droid branding. A new Droid device (or devices) could be coming to market very soon, an event that is usually signaled by Verizon’s @DroidLanding Twitter account.
@DroidLanding has just come back to life after many months of inactivity. Las time we heard from @DroidLanding was last December, but today they are starting their hype factory with the following message.
Reactivation fast approaching, wait and see
— DroidLanding (@DroidLanding) September 2, 2014
Whatever Verizon and Motorola are planning continues to be a mystery. We did uncover details on a rumored Motorola DROID Turbo last month. This device could be a high-end smartphone with a Snapdragon 805 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of ROM, a 4.59-inch QHD display and 20MP/2MP cameras.
Those are specs that will keep many of us Verizon users up at night (despite the small screen), but when will we see an announcement? While Motorola has an event planned for IFA, a couple days from now, no Droids are exactly expected at Berlin’s event.
The invitation leads us to believe that Motorola will be all about the Moto X+1, Moto 360, Moto G2 and a mysterious bluetooth headset at this event. We would be willing to bet a separate event is in the works, but we can’t guarantee that. As per usual – only time will tell.
For now just make sure you follow @DroidLanding on Twitter to hear more about the upcoming device, and be sure we will let you know as soon as we hear more.
Two devices from Sony are exposed in the image above. The smartphone in the woman’s is the Xperia Z3 and the wearable on her wrist is the SmartBand Talk. The Xperia Z3 is shown in copper and the handset will also be available in black, white, and mint green. An image showing the color options can be seen after the break. The SmartBand Talk on the model’s wrist has an interface that does resemble something from Android Wear. And the image above confirms the curved e-ink display for this fitness tracker.

If you're even remotely interested in high-end gaming, you've probably heard of Destiny, also known as "that shooting MMO game that's kinda like Halo from the people who made Halo." The marketing team for Destiny has decided to team up with Google to create an interesting way for excited players (or prospective players) to check out the environments of the game. It's called Destiny Planet View, and it blasts the Google Street View interface into the solar system for a look at some fictional alien worlds.

As HTC continues to support their older flagship line — the original HTC One (M7) — the manufacturer’s US base of operations announced today on Twitter that they have received approval from Verizon regarding their Android 4.4.3 update.
Verizon HTC One M7 Owners! Great news, expect the OTA for 4.4.3 + EPS out this week! We have received approval. Thanks.
— Mo (@moversi) September 2, 2014
Aside from being infused with the same OpenSSL security fixes as you’ll find on stock Android 4.4.4 devices, One M7 users can also look forward to HTC’s Extreme Power Saving mode — a feature you simply can’t get on stock Android.
No word on the exact day the rollout will begin, but keep an eye out. It’s going to be a busy week.
HTC One M7 owners using Verizon's network have a treat coming down the pipeline in a matter of days. The company's Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi has taken to Twitter to announce that an over-the-air update bring Android 4.4.3 is due out later this week. This version of Android will apparently be joined by the awaited Extreme Power Saving mode as well.
