DEAL: Unlocked Galaxy S6 is Just $399 at eBay, Verizon S6 Edge 128GB is $599

To end the day, we’ve got what may be best ever pricing on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge over at eBay. If you are at all interested in the regular Galaxy S6, you can grab an unlocked T-Mobile version for just $399. If you are on Verizon and want the Galaxy S6 Edge, you can get the mega-128GB version for just $599.

The T-Mobile Galaxy S6 is listed as unlocked, so that means it’ll work on any GSM carrier, including AT&T. And in case you were worried, yes, the T-Mobile S6 supports all of AT&T’s bands, including LTE band 17. We’re now in Moto X Pure territory on the S6 – any takers?

As for the Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge, you are looking at a $300 discount at $599. The white 128GB model is currently listed at $899 from Verizon. The listing here also claims that this device is unlocked, but all Verizon phones are technically unlocked, they just don’t support many LTE bands. If I were buying this, I’d probably only use it on Verizon.

Both deals include free shipping.

Night Light Feature for Google Play Books Makes Nighttime Reading Easier on the Eyes

Google Play Books, Mountain View’s dedicated book and magazine reading app, is receiving an update via Google Play that brings a new feature called Night Light. With Night Light, Play Books will automatically adjust the amount of blue light given off from the display, which can be disruptive to human eyes at nighttime. When the app senses sunlight getting low around you, the color changes to an amber hue, which will be easier on your eyes for nighttime book consuming. Yum yum.

As explained by the good folks at Google, “Night Light automatically adapts to the amount of natural sunlight outside based on the time of day, giving you just the right temperature and brightness. The color adjustment is more comfortable on your eyes and greatly improves low-light night reading.” In the header image above, you can see exactly what to expect from when you toggle this feature on.

To turn it on, once you have updated the app, you will see a pop up message asking you to switch on this automatic feature for whenever you are reading. Given it is automatic, it’s not something you have to toggle on and off again.

The update is rolling out to Google Play now.

NVIDIA Gives “Sneak Peek” of Android 6.0 on SHIELD Tablet K1, Update Arriving This Month

NVIDIA plans to update its newest tablet, the SHIELD Tablet K1, to Android 6.0 Marshmallow this month. To celebrate that bit of news, they posted a “sneak peek” video today of the update running on that very tablet, which we have posted above.

In the update, along with all of the goodies Google added to Marshmallow (like Doze, Now on Tap, app permission controls, SD card as internal storage, etc.), NVIDIA is updating the camera app to better take advantage of the tablet’s processing power and loading up the latest Google Now Launcher.

As a recap, the Tablet K1 is the exact same tablet as the original SHIELD Tablet, only NVIDIA has dropped the price point to $199 by cutting out all accessories, including the charger and stylus.

We’ll let you know when the update begins rolling out.

Be a Jedi in Google’s Latest Chrome Experiment, Lightsaber Escape

In the latest Built for Chrome experiment, appropriately titled Lightsaber Escape, you can be a Jedi warrior, attempting to escape an Imperial battleship while fighting Stormtroopers. For gameplay, your phone acts as a lightsaber controller, with syncing taking place between the Chrome app on your phone, and the Chrome browser on your desktop computer.

Once calibrated, you are taught the basics of defending yourself from blasters, as well as deflecting shots back towards your enemies. After you pass a few waves of Stormtroopers, you come across a “boss” Stormtrooper. I have yet to beat him as the controls tend to get a little out of sync by the time I reach that part. However, you can pause and take a moment to recalibrate your device, which should help.

To get started, click the link below and have a bit of fun.

Pushbullet Gets Group Texting From Desktop, Drive Changing in Remote Files

An update to Pushbullet is rolling out today that will give you increased access to files when attempting to access them remotely, along with the ability to group text from your desktop computer.

After receiving an update to the Android Pushbullet app (the update should be live for all), Pushbullet’s Chrome extension, website, and Windows desktop app will let you reply to group text messages. Their apps for Safari, Firefox, and Opera should be available soon. This has apparently been a popular request, so get excited, or something.

In the last update, Pushbullet introduced remote files access from anywhere in the world, but they seem to have left that access locked to a single drive. Power users, the type of people who use this feature in Pushbullet, wanted more, including access to other drives. Today’s update allows you to do just that. Of course, this remains a Windows-only feature at this time.

Enjoy.

Tap & Pay With Android Pay on Your Nexus and Google Will Give You a $20 Best Buy Card

To celebrate the holiday season and Nexus devices and Android Pay and free things, Google has decided to hand out $20 Best Buy e-gift cards to anyone who uses their Nexus device and Android Pay to buy something. From today through December 31, you are eligible for the free e-gift card, as long as supplies last.

In order to participate, you need to pay for something using Android Pay on your Nexus, which could be a Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 5X, or Nexus 6P. Once you have paid for an item at a participating retailer, Google will send the e-gift card to your Android Pay app for use (make sure to keep it installed). It could take a few days (or up to January 31) for it to show, but you don’t have to do anything (don’t email Google asking for it!) else to receive it.

Now, run to a Chevron and buy that pack of gum.

Project Fi Adds Data-Only Device Support, Same $10/GB Pricing

Project Fi, Google’s own cellular service that runs on T-Mobile and Sprint’s LTE networks, announced data-only support for tablets today. Much like you see from the larger carriers, data-only SIMs provide mobile network connection for tablet devices, and Google is now ready to offer this service to customers.

Exactly like Fi’s existing smartphone pricing structure, you only pay for what you use. Data is priced at $10/GB, with each GB subsequently used costing another $10. With no contracts or agreements, you are free to cancel or pause your service at anytime, no strings attached.

Below is the list of verified compatible devices for Project Fi. Google notes that other tablets not listed here may also work. The key ingredient for a device working on Project Fi is compatibility on T-Mobile’s LTE network.

Verified Compatible Tablets

  • Nexus 7 – K009 (US LTE)
  • Nexus 9 – 0P82300 (US LTE)
  • iPad Air 2 – Model A1567
  • iPad mini 4 – Model A1550
  • Galaxy Tab S – Model SM-T807V

If you are already on Project Fi, you can order a data-only SIM straight from your online account page. However, if you don’t see this option yet, don’t worry, as Google states that they are gradually rolling this out to all users and it may take a few days to hit your account.

Moto 360 Sport Unboxing and Tour!

The Moto 360 Sport, Motorola’s latest take on a sports-focused smartwatch, arrives here in the next couple of weeks. We are fortunate enough to now have one in house, so we thought we would unbox it and share some initial impressions. After all, this is the first time anyone has really used a live, real, model, since Motorola would only let us play with dummy units back when this watch was first introduced.

So what is the Moto 360 Sport? It’s a $299 fitness-focused Android Wear-powered smartwatch from Motorola that arrives in the US on January 7. It’ll hit the UK later this week.

This watch sports a 1.37-inch LCD display with AnyLight Hybrid tech, which is a display that should look great or at least function well in both indoor and outdoor lighting. It runs a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and has 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, 300mAh battery, heartrate sensor, and a GPS. Yes, a GPS. This watch should be good for taking off on a run without your phone. It also has IP67 water and dust resistance, a 45mm case, and a silicon band that is sweatproof.

After unboxing it, I’d have to say that it reminds me a lot of the Samsung Gear S2, probably because of the silicon band and round body. The display seems to be OK, though it needs much heavier analysis before I can say much else, especially since it is using this new AnyLight tech. It fits well, is nice and light, and should be a solid workout companion, assuming the battery life gets that “full day of mixed use.”

We’ll have more soon!

AT&T Offering Gear S2 With NumberSync for $99 on 2-Year Agreement

Ready to leave your phone at home? With AT&T’s NumberSync, customers can break free of their smartphone addiction, needing only a compatible smartwatch when they leave the house to place and take calls, as well as send/receive text messages. NumberSync connects the same AT&T phone number to multiple devices, and right now, AT&T is offering the Gear S2 from Samsung at only $99 on a two-year plan with NumberSync.

When AT&T first announced NumberSync, the carrier stated that many devices would feature support later in the year, including tablets. Now that we are into December, the Gear S2 is receiving support via a software update, and new buyers of the watch will find the functionality right out of the box.

Those interested in trying out NumberSync on the Gear S2 can pick up the smartwatch for $99 with a two-year agreement. A Mobile Share Value plan (minimum $30 for a new plan or $10 to add to an existing plan) is also required.

We have gone over the Gear S2 in-depth, and even placed it in the top 3 smartwatches you can currently buy, but I still don’t know how comfortable I would be attaching a two-year agreement to a smartwatch.

DEAL: LG Watch Urbane Drops to $199 in Amazon Lightning Deal ($150 Off)

Looking for a last minute deal on a smartwatch? Amazon is currently (for the next 50 or so minutes) running a deal on the LG Watch Urbane that could get you into the Android Wear device for $199, which is $150 off its normal retail price.

Is the Watch Urbane my favorite Android Wear device? No, it’s actually one of my least favorite because I think it’s about as ugly and ill-fitting as it gets for a smartwatch. With that said, it performs well, still features a great list of specs, and is absolutely worth considering at $199, assuming you can handle its poor wrist presence and ugliness. Since your tastes are likely to differ from mine, here you go.

Again, the deal ends very soon, so don’t hesitate.

Android Pay Arrives in Apps for Speedy Checkouts

Android Pay isn’t just an NFC, tap-and-pay tool, kids. Starting today, Google says that you will start to see Android Pay buttons within your favorite apps, so that you can quickly checkout or buy goods or other items without having to pull out your credit card. All you will need to do is tap the Android Pay button, confirm your info, and then be on your way.

To see how the buttons could look in an app, check out the image at the top of this post where you’ll see the option in Lyft and a couple of other apps.

To kick off today’s in-app launch, some of the first adopters are offering special deals. For example, Lyft will give you $10 off if you pay with Android Pay. OpenTable is slashing $20 off dining, plus DoorDash is giving you a $10 discount. There are others participating or at least who have Android Pay buttons included, all of which you can see here.

On a related note for the international crew in the building, Google announced that Android Pay will come to Australia in the first half of 2016. Android Pay goes international!

Google Now on Tap Gets Quick Flight and Order Tracking, Related Articles, and More Languages

Over the coming days, you will start to see new features in Google Now on Tap that make the tool more useful in the moment than ever, well, assuming you deal with flights or package tracking on a regular basis. In a way, this is Google taking you out of the Google Now screen and allowing you to do some of that magic in the now. And maybe that’s the way this will all play out or is the way Google envisioned it.

This morning, Google announced that you will soon be able to launch Now on Tap (press and hold your home button in Marshmallow) when looking at a text message with flight info that a friend sent over. That Now on Tap initiation will provide you with in-the-moment flight information, so you can then get back to your text message about when you’ll pick that friend up. Another new feature is package tracking while you have a confirmation email within view. Launching Now on Tap here will give you the latest on the package’s status, again, without having to leave your current screen.

Justin-t-not-v2

Outside of those new tools, Google is also adding related articles to Now on Tap screens, so that if you need to read additional information on a story, you’ll get suggestions. And finally, Google is adding language support for French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Korean.

Google didn’t say that an app update is rolling out, only that you should “start seeing all these features over the coming days.” It sounds like Now on Tap is capable of doing all of this stuff now, you just need Google to flip the switch behind-the-scenes.

Let us know if you see it! Would love to see what these new screens look like for flight and package tracking.
