The Popcorn Time app for Android that’s developed by the team at Time4Popcorn, has just upped their game as the app has some great new features. If you like getting your movies to your TV by streaming them but you aren’t in the position to subscribe to Netflix or if it just doesn’t have what you’re looking for, Popcorn Time may be an app worth looking into for you. The app was recently updated in the past with support for streaming to the Chromecast device, making the act of watching movies and TV shows using the app that much easier due to the streaming support to the big screen.
The latest update adds in something that might be even more useful, which is VPN support. VPN stands for virtual private network, and basically setting up a VPN can pretty much mask all your torrent downloading. If you’re downloading and streaming shows and movies a lot, this is likely a feature you’ll be happy about, and it’s also a feature that you should embrace. This update brings Popcorn Time up to beta version 2.1, so if you’re using the app and aren’t on that build yet, you still need to update. Beta 2.1 brings other good tidings, like the ability to work with more devices than before. Yes, Popcorn Time is now compatible with even more devices, making it even more versatile. The team at Time4Popcorn seems to be a friendly bunch and they want to share the love with as many people as they can.
Specifically speaking, anyone that is running Android 4.0 plus can now use Popcorn Time, which means anyone on Ice Cream Sandwich forward. This is a huge step above the prior limitation of Jelly Bean 4.2 and above, but that’s all in the past now isn’t it? What time is it? Popcorn Time. So make some real popcorn and kickback. If you were using the app before now you may have noticed that Chromecast streaming was a little less than what you may have expected, that isn’t to say that it wasn’t an enjoyable experience. Movies also took rather quite long to load, and the good news is that Time4Popcorn has worked hard to improve Popcorn Time in these areas specifically, stating that movie load times have been improved for faster loading, and that the Chromecast streaming experience is overall improved and more smooth. Google has positioned Chromebooks as an excellent laptop to choose for educational purposes, and so far, they’ve sold fairly well. One of the coolest selling points on the HTC One M8 is the Duo Camera setup, which lets users snap photos then apply depth of field focus and other effects after the fact. It’s a fantastic feature that, until now, has been limited to the HTC One M8 and the newer HTC Butterfly J. But thanks to an update to the HTC Gallery app on the Play Store, you’ll now be able to share your photos on the internet and allow others to toy with the photos, including adjusting depth of field focus and other post-processing effect.
Since all of the heavy lifting and information processing is done by HTC’s two cameras, it’s a simple trick for anyone else to adjust photos. It’s very cool that HTC has opened this up to anyone, regardless of whether or not they own an HTC device, and it’s bound to be a hit with social media sharing online.

Those who use Google Play Music as their only music service and app like myself, may be met with a bit of a shock at the latest change made to Google Play Music. No, we’re not talking about the latest changes in the update that happened yesterday with the new widget that was added, we’re talking about Google reversing the lift on the deauthorization limit that happened a couple of years ago. Originally they introduced as part of the policy, a limit to how many devices you could deauthorize within a year, but after it was met with much discontent Google lifted that restriction and just like that it was gone, never to be seen or heard from again, or so we thought.
Today we’re learning that Google has put that limit back in place, thus limiting users to only four deauthorizations out of the entire year. That means you could deauthorize a device basically every four months,(one immediately, and one every four months thereafter)which isn’t a whole lot if you really think about it. This doesn’t impact the number of devices that you can use Play Music on, as you’re still allowed the original 10 that Google had set. If you use many devices however you have to be very cautious about which devices you authorize and which devices you don’t, namely devices that you may only be carrying for a short period of time as you may have to deauthorize them later.
This likely won’t effect most people but there are a fairly large number of people that have a handful of devices that they use with Google Play Music already authorized, and they pick up new devices quickly. This somewhat directly effects us here at Android Headlines as we have to be careful not to authorize too many of the devices that we get in for review, because we could end up getting limited or blocked the next time we want to throw an authorization to a device we pick up that we’ll actually end up owning. It may not be the most desirable scenario, but it just means you’ll have to manage your authorizations and deauthorizations a little better.

If you have a Nexus 5 or a 2013 Nexus 7, you’ll now be able to flash an updated version of Google’s Android L Developer Preview. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be too much added to these builds that isn’t currently available, but it does include the necessary bits and pieces for the Google Fit Platform. There might also be a few stability fixes and the like, but don’t expect much else.

YouTube has all sorts of options for video quality playback when you visit the website, but in the Android app it wasn’t until recently you were able to flip through and select video playback quality as an option, you were only given the ability to view in HD or not, and sometimes it didn’t even look HD if you selected it. As of now any Android device that has the latest version of the YouTube app should be able to open up YouTube and play a video, then select either 480p, 720p, or 1080p as a video playback option. The good news for LG G3 owners, is that you should start seeing 1440p show up as a possible selection if you want even higher quality playback while you your favorite videos.
As far as we know this is limited to the LG G3 right now, as Droid Life pointed out that they had noticed the appearance of the option and we tested it ourselves with a G3 we have in hand. It does indeed show up as an option for video playback, so we have to wonder if this option will come to other devices that can support the playback quality in the near future. With that being said don’t expect the 1440p option to come to devices that don’t have a display that can support that playback quality, as we’ll probably be stuck with 1080p playback and nothing more. That’s not to say that 1080p playback on other devices that can’t support the 1440p looks bad, because on the contrary 1080p playback on my Nexus 4 still looks amazing, but, it still isn’t 1440p.
If you have an LG G3 open up YouTube and test it for yourself, since you’ll have a device with a display that can support that video quality. If you see the option, than why not use it whenever it pops up. If you have never messed with the playback quality in the YouTube app before accessing the selection of different options is simple, you just tap on the video after you hit play and the settings button will appear, and hitting that will open up the panel that includes the different levels of video quality.

It has been a while since the Google+ app has seen any real changes. Though today’s update to version 4.5 is not major, it does bring some good eye candy to Google’s social network app. The update is now available from the Google Play Store, but it might be a good idea to go over the changes before you go and download it.
Design changes are hidden all over the app, but they are all relatively small. The most interesting change I saw is within the profile page. You will notice the image and profile information are no longer centered, offering a left-aligned experience that does seem to look a bit more organized and pleasing to the eye.
Another big one is that the app seems to be turning more URL addresses into hyperlinks, a feature that was missing in many areas of the app. This became a huge annoyance to those who want to look into more details about a certain post or topic.
In addition, the play button on videos has become a little more “bold”. The +1, share and comment buttons in each post also look much darker, a change that definitely stands out. Other minor changes include the re-location of the search function within your Circles area.
Your update should be available now, so go get your update and let us know if you find any other improvements or changes.
When companies like Samsung and HTC announce their new devices you usually expect a bit of time before you can get your hands on the device. Sometimes it takes only hours, while other times it could be months, it’s always different. For example, Samsung recently sent out invites for the next “UnPacked” event on September 3rd. The invitation makes it obvious that Samsung will be releasing the newest addition to the Samsung Galaxy Note family-the Galaxy Note 4. The invite says, “Note The Date!” However, there is no mention of when the Note 4 will be available to own, instead, rumors have that aspect covered.
A tipster has let it slip that the amount of time consumers will have to wait to own the Galaxy Note 4 after it’s been officially announced will very short. They way this tipster has obtained this info is straight from Samsung themselves, in an email with black out periods for employees. The black-out periods are between September 3rd through the 5th and then again on the 15th through the 28th. The latter is more than likely the release week for the Galaxy Note 4. This rumor suggests that the wait time for the Galaxy Note 4 after official announcements are finished, will be less than two weeks.
This timeframe is nothing more than a rumor, but if it’s correct it shows that Samsung is working up to an HTC style announcement and release date. Earlier this year HTC announced and launched the HTC One M8 on the same day. The M8 wasn’t available everywhere, and in the US only on certain carriers, but still, that’s the best time we’ve seen so far. Now, this timeframe for the release of the Galaxy Note 4 is not confirmed by any means. Even if they have announced these dates to employees, it can change at any time, or even be the incorrect times. This is just a rumor, and needs to be noted as such. Gameloft’s Order and Chaos Online has been the definitive MMORPG experience on Android since it launched, and while there have been a good number of games to enter in to the same genre space since then, few if any have been able to measure up to the popularity and the type of content that Order and Chaos has been providing for mobile gamers for the last few years. There have been lots of updates with new content patches that have added all kinds of new features and even some new character classes to play, but nothing is as exciting as hearing that the best MMO on Android is now going to cost nothing. Not one cent.
As a little background for anyone that may be new to gaming on Android or just haven’t check out Order and Chaos yet, it’s an MMO that can best be described as a comparison to World of Warcraft in gameplay type, and is the closest comparison to quality of content on a mobile experience. When it launched it had a subscription fee associated with it to play, which was on a monthly basis, but Gameloft had since done away with it as of a couple of years ago. Now, with the latest update that just newly launched for the game, Android gamers will now be able to experience Order and Chaos Online for no cost at all, even up front, as the game will be free to download and play.
Order and Chaos had previously cost $6.99 and some months ago the team at Gameloft had dropped the price of the game to just a mere $0.99 which made it a complete steal if you love the MMO genre. All those quests, battles, dungeons and raids for just a buck, and play time with no monthly sub fees. Now that it’s free, anyone who may have been holding out can give it a go without feeling the risk of losing out on money if they don’t like the game. The update doesn’t just include the price drop though, there’s new content too, like a brand new PvP battlefield with intense 2v2 and 4v4 challenges and capture the flag modes. There’s also the addition of leagues. Players can now join leagues and compete for victory against other leagues and climb the ranks of the leaderboards. For the collectors, there’s new mounts and new anniversary pets, and of course some shiny new battle suits. Lastly there’s new events to help commemorate the third anniversary of the game’s launch, which includes Haradon Day and the annual Magpie Festival. There’s plenty to keep seasoned players entertained and now even more to entice new players. Grab the game here and make sure to carve out a decent chunk of space to store it.

The HTC One M8 introduced camera technology that continues to be very unique in the mobile industry. The One M8 and J Butterfly share what HTC calls the Duo Camera, a system with two cameras in the back of the device. This dual set-up gives hardware the ability to distinguish distances between objects within the image. This means it’s easy to create a “blurry” effect that is hard to get without dedicated photo equipment.
HTC’s software includes other cool effects that take advantage of this technology, but so far very few of us have been truly able to experience the editing process. This changes today, with an update that allows users to share more than the final image. In fact, they can share the pre-edited photo and allow friends to experience how UFocus, Foregrounder and Dimension Plus work.
HTC calls it the Due Effects Gallery, and it is available via the latest update to the HTC Gallery app, which you can now get from the Google Play Store.
The feature can be a bit hard to find, so we thought we should let you know how it all works. You can simply go to the HTC Gallery and find the image you want to share. Tap on it and select “Edit”. Once in the editing page, you can simply select the effect you want to share with the world.
Click on the share button and select “Link”. After this, you will be presented with a list of apps that you can share your lovely images with. Make your selection and then you can easily share the link with anyone you want. The service is hosted by Google Drive, which is why the UI will seem oddly familiar.

Dragon Quest IV originally launched for the Nintendo Entertainment System in the early 90s, but it later appeared on the first PlayStation and the Nintendo DS in an updated form.

Earlier today we told you guys about the sudden update to Android L (LPV81C) that Google uploaded. While anticipate the reason for the update had more to do with Google Fit support than anything (the preview SDK just went live for developers), we were excited to dig around and check for anything else that might be new. Of course, we’re expecting only the latest versions of Google’s apps were included and decided to dump them into a folder for anyone looking to update whatever they like. For those interested, the app repository can be found in our own Google Drive folder here .
Some apps can be installed over existing ones like normal, others may need something a little more forceful (like pushing through ADB or flashing via zip file). In either case, you now have access to everything from the the latest Android L Preview. Have at it.

We are starting to see 1440p as a quality option in YouTube for Android, as long as the video uploader has made their videos available at that resolution. Back in June, the YouTube Android app received an update that first introduced quality settings, but at the time was limited to a max setting of 720p. As June rolled on, users started to see 1080p pop-up, but this is the first time we are seeing 1440p.
As you can imagine, I am only seeing the 1440p option on my LG G3, since it has a display resolution that can actually handle a video with that type of quality. On my Nexus 5 and HTC One (M8), 1080p is the top option.
To access quality settings, start playing a video, tap on it to bring up video options, tap the menu button, then the gear, and finally, choose a video resolution. If you own a phone or tablet with a high enough resolution, you should see 1440p.

So you know how when you don't understand what someone's saying on Google+, you click that conveniently located translate button that appears at the bottom of their post and whammo, everything suddenly makes sense? Well, Yelp is planning on bringing some of the magic over to its mobile app. Users will be able to click a button to instantly translate reviews. It may not sound like much, but it could really come in handy when traveling in a country where the local residents speak a different language and you really just want to know where to get a plate of breakfast without breaking the bank.

Verizon doesn’t seem too eager to give up on their Push To Talk service. They launched Plus to Talk Plus as sort of an update and a number of 4G devices from their portfolio are able to use the service. “Communicate instantly with just the push of a button” says Verizon. Let’s see what they have to offer with this new service, or an improved old one, whatever you want to call it.
The service is powered by Kodiak Networks and Verizon is promising faster call setup along with better/lower latency, improved voice quality (or as they call it “superior”) and encrypted wireless service. Along with these improvements they’ve also introduced some features. One of the features is called “Talker Priority” and it can be extremely useful if you’re hosting a conference call, it lets you take over the conversation (be the only speaker). Another feature they’re offering is “Late Join”. This is basically for those people who did not join the conference call in time and want to join after it has already started. The last thing they added as far as features go is “Rejoin”. You guessed it, if you drop out of a group call and want to rejoin you can do that. You don’t have to use Verizon’s 4G LTE in order to use the service, you can do that via Wi-Fi network as well.
As I mentioned in the beginning, the service is available to certain devices from Verizon’s portfolio. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Motorola Droid MAXX, the Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE and some other ones which you can check out if you follow the source link below. Verizon Wireless also promises the service will become available to some additional devices soon, such as the brand new Kyocera Brigadier for example. Verizon is offering a special promotion for a limited amount of time if you add the service to your account. If you do so, you’ll receive credit for the first six months and after that they will charge you a $5 a month fee, which is their usual price for the Push To Talk Service.

The Drake vs Lil Wayne tour officially kicks off this Friday and for fans attending the event, they’ll be able to interact with the artists in a while new way thanks to a a companion app built for Android (and iOS) devices. A collaboration between October’s Very Own, Young Money Entertainment and Capcom, the app — DvsLW — was put together by Los Angeles-based iam8bit, a production company that often hosts art shows and other social events at their venue in Echo Park.
DvsLW allows concert goers interact with artists on-stage by sending “power ups” from their phone. By button mashing virtual arcade buttons found in the app, fans can build up either Drake or Lil Wayne’s power meter where the results will be reflected live on stage via the jumbo trons. It’s not entirely clear exactly how this will affect performances, but we’re guessing it will be used like a voting method to pick which artist won in a rap battle. Should be interesting.
There have been other tour-specific apps in the past, some of which allowed attendees to choose the next song in an artists playlist. While DvsLW doesn’t have that functionality, it is a fun way to connect concert-goers with the artists they love. The app has a few other features as well, featuring Drake/Lil Wayne/Street Fighter themed stickers that can be applied to photos (likely taken at the event). During the Google I/O keynote in June we heard a little bit about Google’s plans for expanding their efforts towards fitness with the introduction of the Google Fit platform. At the time all we knew for sure was that the platform would be able to tap into sensors and other data collected by our phones and wearables, with developers being able to take this information and use it for their apps.
Google also announced several companies like Nike and Adidas were partnering for the effort, and promised we’d see a preview of the SDK in “coming weeks”. True to its word, Google has now released the preview SDK to developers, providing a set of APIs that allow developers to take fitness-related applications to a whole new level.
Here’s a description of the three APIs, as provided by Google in its developer’s blog:
Sensors API provides high-level access to sensors from the device and wearables—so with one API your app can talk to sensors, whether on an Android device or a wearable. So if you’re making a running app, you could register it to receive updates from a connected heart rate monitor every 5 seconds during a user’s run and give immediate feedback to the runner on the display.
Recording API allows apps to register for battery-efficient, cloud-synced background collection of fitness data. For example, a running app could ask to store user’s location so it can map the run later. Once it registers for these data types, collection is done by Fit in the background with no further work needed by the app.
History API allows operations on the data like read, insert and delete. When the exerciser finishes her run, the running app can query the History API for all locations during the run and show a map.
For more details on the API, you’ll want to head over to Google’s developer page. Also keep in mind that Google has now released a new build of Android L that adds support for the Google Fit platform. For those that aren’t developers, the new Google Fit SDK really does nothing for you immediately, though it opens up the doors to much smarter apps that better utilize our sensors in the future.
One of the most popular photography applications across the world is getting an update today that makes it much more social. VSCO Cam is getting a major update and version 3.0 includes the VSCO Grid. It is a hub for a users content that is showcased for others to see. But that is just about it. To build a social following, users can search for others to follow and enjoy their VSCO Grid. There are no comments or likes to be dealt, just follows and shear appreciation.
In addition to the integration of the VSCO Grid, the app has an cleaner user interface with improved sharing functionality. It is now more efficient for a user to share images to other social media services. And, of course, VSCO has improved behind the scenes performance enhancements.
