Welcome to the latest entry in our Bonus Round series, wherein we tell you all about the new Android games of the day that we couldn't get to during our regular news rounds. Consider this a quick update for the dedicated gamers who can't wait for our bi-weekly roundups, and don't want to wade through a whole day's worth of news just to get their pixelated fix. Today we've got an impressive BMX game, a tricky top-down driver, and a collaborative 3D platformer.

Google Earth set to evolve with end of API announcement
Resisting the urge to break out R.E.M.’s It’s The End Of The World, Google’s development team announced today that they are shutting down the Google Earth API. Consistent with Google’s own policies, the API will be supported for a period of one year meaning Google Earth will reach end of life in its current form on December 12, 2015.
According to Google, the primary reason for this move was dwindling support for the NPAPI plugin framework that the Earth API was built on. Both Firefox and Chrome have announced that they are removing support from their browsers for NPAPI due to security concerns.
Google also mentions that developers were finding it increasingly difficult to use the API across platforms, especially on mobile devices. We may have already seen a hint of this a couple months ago when Google released an updated version of Google Earth for Android that uses a new rendering engine. Now other platforms will have to pursue similar paths if they want to build 3D environments using Google’s Earth data.
Google does indicate “3D is in our blood” and they plan to announce some new developments around the Earth product.

Dead Zebra gives us first look at Android Collectibles Series 5, wont be available until next year
It’s been awhile since we heard from the folks at Dead Zebra but just in time for the hol- well, okay. Their new Series 5 Android Collectibles wont be available in time for Christmas, but they are giving us a sneak peek at a few of the characters set to debut next year.
Pictured above is “Sk8 Cop” by artist Gary Ham, the guy responsible for some of our favorite Android collectibles like cupcake, Jack-o-Lantern, and the Snowman. Also supplied was an image of a plain orange and pirate collectibles holding the checklist insert showing even more designs (Chrome!). Dead Zebra says they’ll be hitting retailers — including their own online shop — towards the end of January, so be on the lookout. We’ll let you know as soon as they do.

Available this Monday, December 15th at 11AM EST from the Dead Zebra shop, the bot can be purchase by itself for $10, double pack for $20, 5-pack for $45, or a pack of 10 for $90. You’ll need to choose priority shipping if you’re hoping to get these guys in time for Christmas.

Android holiday ornament from Andrew Bell and Dead Zebra coming December 15
On Monday, people around the world can add some Android flavor to their holiday decorations. Andrew Bell and Dead Zebra have returned with another Android holiday ornament. Last year, the ornament came in red and blue varieties; however, Bell opted for “good ole ‘Android Green’ edition” with this year’s item. It is shiny all around with sparkling features on the front, back, neck, and ankles. It comes with a hook for easy hanging on a Christmas tree.
The Android holiday ornament will be available on December 15 at 11:00am EST. When stock runs out at that time, more units will be offered at 11:00pm EST. These do tend to sell out very fast, so have quick fingers online. They can be purchased as a single ($10) or double ($20), but also in packs of five ($45) or ten ($90). Customers in the United States should select Priority Mail shipping to make it for Christmas. International customers will likely, and unfortunately, miss receiving the Android holiday ornament in time for Christmas this year.

In January, near the end of the month, the Series 5 edition of Bell’s miniature collectibles will arrive. A launch for the holidays this was snagged due to production delays. The wait seems worth it as we have a preview of the collectibles in the image above. On the far left is the Orange and the far right is Sturnbrau. The latter was designed by Jon Paul Kaiser. And below is a full preview of the Sk8 Cop.

Nexus 9 LTE Android 5.0.1 Factory Image Now Available as Build LRX22C
The Android 5.0.1 factory image for the newly-released Nexus 9 LTE was just posted on Google’s servers. After going live on Google Play and T-Mobile this morning, the LTE variant is the same exact Nexus 9 which features WiFi-only connectivity, but with the added LTE radio.

Google Posts Factory Image For LTE Nexus 9
If you took the plunge on one of those new LTE Nexus 9s earlier today, you'll be happy to know there's a factory image waiting for you. That makes restoring the device to stock a snap. All you need is a computer, a USB cable, and an unlocked bootloader.
The image is Android 5.0.1, build LRX22C. The code name for the LTE Nexus 9 is "volantisg," which is expected. All the previous Nexus tablets with mobile data simply added a "g" on the end.

Amazon accepting HTML5 apps and games for Fire TV and Fire TV Stick
Apps and games based on HTML5 will be heading to the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Why? Because Amazon extending its HTML5 web app publishing toolset to include support for its set-top box and streaming dongle. The company is making it possible for developers to take web apps running on Fire OS and bring them to the new television-connected devices. Now, apps can remain consistent across Amazon’s various form factors.
These are additional features Amazon is giving developers access to:
- Support for the Amazon Fire TV Remote
- Support for analog input from the Amazon Fire TV Game Controller and other gamepads
- Access to the In App Purchase (IAP) API via JavaScript
- A new starter template app optimized for 10 foot experience for creating Fire TV HTML5 media apps
