Sponsored App Review: Math Mania

mathmain

Math Mania is an Android game that’s all about using your brain. On the face of things, it might look like a game for kids, but it’s actually a quickfire quiz game for all ages. You’re presented with two numbers and then an answer, you need to choose whether the operation is to add, subtract, divide or multiply the numbers to get the answer. You need to choose the operation in a matter of seconds in order to get the question right and to then move on to other questions. The quicker you answer questions, and the more of them you answer, the closer you’ll become to beating Einstein’s score. Math Mania is something for those looking to really test themselves, and will be a great game for math buffs or gifted children looking to perfect their skills.

To get started with Math Mania, all you need to do is to download it from the Play Store. Then you can get started.

There’s a very short and to-the-point tutorial when you start playing Math Mania, but it’s really not that helpful.

Thankfully thought, there’s little you need to think about when it comes to controls and such. All you need to do is to tap the right operation that would get the answer at the bottom of the screen. You have a seriously slim amount of time to get these questions right though, as there’s a timer at the top of the display that lasts only a few seconds.

When you get a question right, you’re given a star-rating, and the quicker you get something right, the higher a rating you’re given.

At the end of your game time, you’re given a score, as well as a general overall rating and how close you’ve come to Einstein’s score.

That’s all there is to the gameplay, but there are achievements and you can connect with Google Play Games as well. The real fun is in beating your high score time after time and seeing how long you can play for without making a mistake. Chaining answers together will get you double points and keep you going, but it is a very difficult game there’s no denying that.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with Math Mania, having said that I do wish that there was a different difficulty setting or something as my math skills are okay I’d say, and I was really struggling to get past more than a few answers in a row. The game is fairly new however, so there’s a chance that this sort of thing can be added in the future and I’m sure they’re working on new game modes and that sort of thing. As for the overall look and feel of the game, I was happy that Math Mania used fairly neutral colors, and there’s very little to get in your way or distract you when you’re trying your best to answer tough questions as quickly as possible. It’s a fun game, there’s no denying that, but I wouldn’t recommend this to everyone. Just like I would love a difficult word game, I wouldn’t see some of my friends enjoying it. A game that’s suited to those that enjoy using their brain and have a knack for tricky math questions, Math Mania is a challenging game that can be great fun.

Ratings

  • Speed (4/5) – Math Mania runs nice and quickly, and this is a game you can play in small chunks at a time, making it great for on the go gaming.

  • Features (3.5/5) – This is a game that’s just getting off the ground, but it’s one that already has a lot going for it, and I’m sure it’ll get more difficulty settings and extra modes in future releases.

  • Theme (4/5) – It might not be that exciting, but the basic color scheme make this a game that is both easy to understand and the music is pretty good, too.

  • Overall (4/5) – For a new game, Math Mania ticks a lot of the right boxes, but I wish there were different difficulty settings and other game modes. Right now though, this is still a game for those that love working out their brain and are decent mathematicians.

Pros

  • No complicated controls or anything to remember, just pick the right answer and you’re done.

  • Great for small sessions on the way to work or while waiting for a train or something like that; it’s well-suited no matter how much time you have.

  • Nice challenge for those big on their math, or those looking to keep their brains sharp.

  • Good replay value as once you get used to the game and sharpen your brain up, you can go for that high score of Einstein’s.

Cons

  • Won’t appeal to those not so hot on their math skills.

  • Difficulty adjustment would be nice as the game is very challenging right from the go.

Math Mania might not be a game for everyone, but it’s something that brain training fans will really enjoy and those looking to get their brain sharp for an upcoming exam or just to keep their brain fresh will love this. It’s challenging, easy to play and a great game when you’re on the move, it might not be easy to some, but Math Mania is one of the few games that makes Math even remotely exciting.
