Android Lollipop has been getting much attention this past week, and even more so today as the T-mobile and unlocked models of the HTC One M7 started getting updates today to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Google also officially announced Android 5.1 Lollipop today and that the OTA rollout would begin starting March 9th. T-Mobile built off this announcement by stating OTA’s for Android 5.1 would begin rolling out today for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and the 2013 model of the Nexus 7. All of this talk about Android Lollipop likely has Sony device owners that have been confirmed to receive the update to Google’s newest Android version chomping at the bit, and rightfully so as users were told the update would be arriving initially in February.
February has already come and gone and users of the Xperia Z family of devices are still left waiting, and while it might be a little disappointing to know that the software has yet to arrive and Sony has missed their time window, it’s better that they delay the update to make sure everything is how it should be instead of rushing it out before they’re 100% sure it’s completely ready. That time may soon be upon us as the Sony Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3, and the Xperia Z3 Compact are said to be getting prepped for the Android Lollipop update in India at this time.
The report doesn’t explicitly state when the updates may begin hitting the above-listed devices in the region, and it isn’t entirely clear that the report is official just yet. It is claimed though to be from the Sony R&D team in India and the updates are said to be rolling out in the coming weeks ahead. Along with claim that the update is on its way, the update package itself is said to be around 630MB in size for the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, and nearly 518MB for the Xperia Z2. If the update is indeed getting ready to hit Indian devices, then users in other regions, like the U.S. and the UK could begin to see the updates soon as well, although there are no official details to report at this time.
