Google Shares new Android Wear Ad before Apple’s Watch Event

Today, Apple is planning to officially launch their smartwatch. After they showed it off last fall, and promised it’d be available in early 2015. It’ll be the most expensive smartwatch on the market, unless the rumors of the price of Huawei’s Watch turn out to be true. Their event is actually scheduled to get under way in a little bit. Google decided this was a great time to push out a new Android Wear ad, pretty slick right? In the ad, we see a bunch of younger adults showing off their smartwatches, including the Moto 360, LG G Watch, LG G Watch R, Samsung Gear Live and others. Almost making it look like Android Wear works for hipsters too. Not to mention the smartwatches that are coming soon like the LG Watch Urbane, and the Huawei Watch.

While the timing does make it look like Google’s worried about their smartwatch ecosystem, I don’t think they are. Especially with the fact that Sundar has stated that they are working on Android Wear for iOS (I wonder how they’ll get the app into the App Store though, since Apple doesn’t allow anything named “Android” in there?). Which makes it another prime example of Google not really caring what ecosystem you use, they just want you to use their services. Which is fine with me, as it makes it simpler for those that use both ecosystems, like myself.

While we’ll be seeing more of the Apple Watch in just a few minutes, let’s enjoy this Android Wear commercial, it’s a pretty good one. And fits right in with their “Be Together, Not the Same” Campaign that they launched with the Nexus 6 this past fall. You can check out the video down below, also let us know what you think about the ad in the comments.
