Huawei was recently confirmed as the newest smartphone maker to be awarded a shot at making one-of-two new Nexus devices. Despite not knowing a lot of the logistics, we’re starting to see more rumors trickling out regarding what will be in the new Google-oriented device. Today, we’re hearing a report regarding the device’s processor.
According to the report, Huawei’s Nexus device will use a Hisilicon made Kirin processor. The over ten-year-old company generated $1.4 billion in 2013 and has since become the No. 1 IC design company in china and the company can now compete against Mediatek and Qualcomm. The processor that may be in the Nexus device is pretty advanced itself.
The Kirin 930 is built on a 16nm process (the Snapdragon 810 is built on a 20nm process) and comes in as a 64-bit, 2.0GHz clocked octa-core processor. It’s based on ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture which is known for its power savings and will be able to support camera lens up to 32MP.
The company does have plans to push the chip out to other OEMs, further increasing its marketshare. It should be noted that with any rumor we should take it with a hefty grain of salt as things can change dramatically between now and whenever/if ever Google announces such a device.
