Sony Confirms the Xperia C3 and Xperia T2 to get Lollipop Next Week!

For those of you with the Xperia C3 and the Xperia T2, you’ll be excited to know that you will be getting Lollipop beginning next week. This morning, Sony confirmed that the rollout will begin on April 20th, which is next week. Sony also confirmed that this includes the Dual-SIM variants of these devices as well. We had heard from Sony earlier this month that the Xperia C3 and Xperia T2 were next on the list for the Lollipop update, but now we have confirmation from Sony that it will begin next week. Sony did say it’ll be rolling out to markets worldwide, so it looks like we won’t be seeing a limited release at first like we did with the first set of updates, which included the Xperia Z3 and Z2 family of devices.

Sony also stated that older Xperia Z devices – mostly the Xperia Z and Z1 family of devices – will be getting the update in the “next few weeks”. So hopefully it won’t be too much longer for most people with the older Sony Xperia Z devices out there. Great job by Sony to get Lollipop out to all these devices at about the same time. For a while we were wondering if Sony would update their devices. In the span of less than a month, we’ll have updates for all their devices to come out since the beginning of 2013. Pretty amazing.

The Lollipop update from Sony is pretty decent actually. They kept a lot of the AOSP features in Lollipop, without changing them too much. If you look at the Quick Settings panel in Sony’s Lollipop, it looks basically the same as the Nexus 6’s version. Compared to the HTC One M9 which looks quite a bit different. Sony also updated quite a few of their apps to feature material design, and they look amazing on Sony’s new update for Lollipop.

Here in the US, we’re still waiting on Lollipop for the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v and Xperia Z2 Tablet on T-Mobile and Verizon respectively. Hopefully owners won’t have to wait that much longer. But for those with the Xperia C3 and the Xperia T2, you’ll have your update next week!
