Last Friday, Samsung launched their 6th generation Galaxy S smartphone. Not many smartphones make it to their 6th generation. In fact, the only other ones I can think of off the top of my head are the Nexus and iPhone. Although iPhone is more like 8 because of the 4s, 5s, etc., models. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are some of Samsung’s best smartphones they’ve ever made. And we’re working on full reviews of them.
Today, Samsung released a new video on their Samsung Tomorrow YouTube channel. For those that might be unaware, Samsung Tomorrow is their own blog. The video is titled “Galaxy S Series History”. And it basically takes you down memory lane showing you the Galaxy S, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S6. Showing you how the series has evolved over the years, starting in 2010.
The original Galaxy S had a 4-inch 800×480 resolution Super AMOLED display, along with a Samsung Exynos chip inside. Compare that to the Galaxy S6, or even the Galaxy S5 which has a 5.1-inch 2560×1440 resolution Super AMOLED display (Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch 1920×1080 resolution Super AMOLED display), you’d wonder how we ever lived with such a small device. And it really does look tiny, especially when compared to the other smartphones that are out on the market right now, like the Nexus 6, and the Galaxy Note 4. But the Galaxy S is what started it all.
The Galaxy S3 was a big part in history as well for Samsung and other OEMs. It was the first device to launch on four US carriers under the same name. The Galaxy S launched on all four carriers, but with different names, the Galaxy S2 missed out on Verizon. And again, they had different names. The Galaxy S3 launched on all four carriers as the Galaxy S3. It was the phone that really started Samsung’s dominance. It continued with the Galaxy S4, although it dropped a bit with the Galaxy S5, it appears to be picking back up again with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
