Samsung’s newest Galaxy S6 flagships have been all over the news lately. This Korea-based smartphone OEM has announced the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge handsets back in March during MWC in Barcelona, and both of them went on sale three days ago (April 10) all over the world. These two devices are the first metal unibody smartphones to be manufactured by Samsung and they’re not exactly cheap to begin with, but that didn’t stop Karalux to ‘bling them up’ and make the price go up even further.
Karalaux is a Vietnamese gold-plating shop we’ve mentioned several times now. They’ve been gold-plating smartphones for quite some time now, and have now done the same with Samsung’s newest flagships. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge handsets joined the company’s family of 24K gold-plated smartphones. Well, to be more specific, Karalaux has gold-plated the metallic trim of the device and the metal rim around the camera considering that there’s Gorilla Glass 4 glass both on its front and back, so they had nothing to treat in those areas.
Karalaux says that the gold-plating process lasted for 3 hours and that it consists of 10 different stages. The phones also got an additional nano layer to prevent the gold from being corroded. How much do these devices cost? Well, you’ll have to pay an additional $400 in order for the company to gold-plate the device, on top of the regular price of the device ($685). Expensive? Well, yes, but there are obviously consumers who are interested in Karalux’s services.
Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are very similar in a lot of ways, they do look somewhat different due to curved display on the sides of the Galaxy S6 Edge. The two devices also have different battery units built-in, the Galaxy S6 features a 2,550mAh battery, and the Galaxy S6 Edge sports a 2,600mAh unit. That being said, both of these devices come sporting a 5.1-inch QuadHD Super AMOLED display along with 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM and various storage options. Samsung’s Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor powers on these handsets, 16-megapixel (OIS) camera sensor is located on both of them and Android 5.0.2 comes pre-installed here with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top of it.
