Not so long ago, Samsung held a low-key launch event for the Galaxy Tab A line in Russia. We say low-key because the device still isn’t listed on Samsung’s Mobile Press site and there’s very little information concerning a worldwide launch of either devices. That is, until now, as word has slipped out that Samsung is launching at least the 9.7-inch version of the Galaxy Tab A in Germany for €299, while the 4G LTE version is to cost €349. It is a little bizarre to see Samsung launch a product like this, but considering that the Galaxy Tab A duo are devices aimed at the budget end of the market it’s hardly surprising we’ve yet to see a global release.
The Galaxy Tab A 9.7 is the larger of the two, with the smaller tablet being an 8-inch affair and this one sporting a 9.7-inch display. Both the Galaxy Tab A 9.7 and Galaxy Tab A 8.0 sport 4:3 aspect ratios with a display resolution of 1024 x 768 as well as some fairly mediocre internals. Talking about the Galaxy Tab A 9.7, there’s a 1.2 Ghz quad-core CPU on the inside along with 1.5GB of RAM for the WiFi model and 2GB for the LTE model. There’s a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera as well as 16GB of expandable storage. All-in-all though, these are budget tablets and for €299 they could be a lot worse. We’re not sure whether or not this price is to be the same across all of Europe, or how much the 8.0-inch Galaxy Tab A will cost when it goes on sale, but we can’t imagine it’ll be quite as much as this larger version.
It seems this version of the Galaxy Tab A Android tablet is about to go on sale during May, and we’re sure those looking for a quality tablet without breaking the bank will be eagerly awaiting the launch. The adoption of a 4:3 aspect ratio for these new tablets is yet another sign that Samsung is following Google’s lead rather than going against the grain.
