Android TV is one of the new platforms which Google unveiled last year at their I/O event. Fast forward to now and in spite of this year’s I/O event nearing, the platform has still yet to get into many users hands. This is partly due to the lack of availability of the platform in device form. Of course, Google’s Nexus Player has long been available although not everyone will be interested in this particular device and might be instead waiting on one of the other devices which has already been announced. For instance, at CES Sony announced that their whole Bravia line of TV’s would come with Android TV baked in from now on.
Likewise, at CES, Razer also made an announcement that they would be releasing their own Android TV device in the form of the Razer Forge TV. In terms of what is on offer, the Razer Forge TV comes equipped with 2GB RAM and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 CPU (clocks at 2.5GHz) and for graphics processing, an Adreno 420 GPU. As well as 16GB internal storage. One of the real benefits of this unit compared to other Android TV devices, is that as well providing the option to play android games on the device, Forge TV will also offer the ability to stream PC games to their TV. In terms of price, it was largely reported that the Forge TV device was due to land at an identical base price to the Nexus Player, $99 for the unit alone.
Well, it now seems if you want to secure your unit earlier than Amazon have opened their pre-orders for the Razer Forge TV. However, at the moment, the pre-orders are only being offered for a bundle pack which includes the main Forge TV unit and one controller. In terms of when you can expect your pre-order to be fulfilled, the Amazon listing is stating May 1st as the scheduled delivery date. So if you do want to be one of the first to get your hands on this particular Android TV unit, then you may want to click the link below and get your pre-order in early.
