The LG G3 was one of the best smartphones released last year. LG has decided to place all the physical buttons on the back of the LG G2 back in 2013, and has done the same once again last year when they released the LG G3. That turned out to be a great choice by the company because it allowed them to trim the bezels on the sides, which resulted in a great looking device. The LG G4 is one of the most anticipated devices of 2015, and the company has already announced that the handset will launch on April 28th. We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors regarding the handset, and the Head of LG Mobile has also teased the device itself along with its UI. Juno Cho has said a while ago that the G4 will be significantly different that the G3, and has also announced that the company will release information about the new version of their UI before the launch of the G4. Well, that has just happened, let’s see what LG’s UX 4.0 has to offer, shall we.
LG says that the user interface on their newest UX 4.0 will be extremely easy to navigate, and that it will have a lot of functionality as well. The UX 4.0 is, of course, based on Android Lollipop. The UX 4.0 brings along Quick Shot, Expert Mode in Camera, new gallery, etc., while it will also keep some of the old features and design cues. Let’s take a look at what’s new here. The “Quick Shot” feature is essentially a quick camera shortcut. You could quickly launch the camera in UX 3.0 as well, at least on some LG devices, by holding down the volume down button. Well, LG is taking a different approach here in order to let you do that even faster this time around, all you’ll have to do is press the volume down button twice.
LG’s “Smart Board” will collect info from your music, calendar, health, etc., and will bring that info your way through a widget, so that it’s always accessible. “Expert Camera Mode” essentially means you’ll get a ton of additional tweaks in the camera app, you don’t have to use any of that of course, this is just a set of additional features for those who need them. The “Calendar” app will also get a number of updates. For example, if you set multiple schedules in one place, you’ll be able to manage them together. You’ll also be able to drag an event from social network services like Facebook directly to the calendar.
The “Gallery” app got revised by the company as well. LG will offer you the option to arrange your images in separate albums as “Memories”, based on the place and the time those images were taken. “Smart Alerts” are basically smart notifications which will arrive you at the right time in the right place according to the company. This sounds an awful lot like Google Now, and we’ve already seen it in the UX 3.0, hopefully LG has improved this feature this time around. And last, but not least, the “Ring ID” feature. You’ll be able to set separate ringtones for different people in your contacts list.
There’s also an official video by the company embedded down below if you’d like to check it out. The LG UX 4.0 will launch on the LG G4 later this month, and will make way to a number of LG’s already available devices later in the year.
