LG G Watch R first look

While the LG G Watch had a design that was very simplistic and felt more akin to other earlier smartwatch designs, the new G Watch R holds a design that much more closely mimics a traditional sports watch, complete with a chronograph. Earlier today we were able to get a little time with the watch at IFA, and we have to say this is very much a step up from what LG brought us with their first Android Wear offering.

One thing you’ll notice about the watch is that, while it comes with a nice looking leather band, you can actually use just about any band out there, since the G Watch R uses a standard 22mm watch band size. LG also has a few official bands such as leather, rubber, metallic and fabric.

Another major stand-out feature is the watch faces found on the G Watch R. LG is including a number of different watch faces, allowing you to find the one that best matches what you’re looking for. There are roughly 20 faces including fitness, hiking, world clock and moon phase.

Specs

  • 1.3-inch POLED display with resolution of 320×320, 245PPI

  • Snapdragon 400 CPU

  • 512MB RAM

  • 4GB storage

  • Bluetooth 4.0

  • Sensors: 9-axis, PPG, Barometer, heart rate monitor

  • Dimensions: 46.4 x 53.6 x 9.7mm

  • IP67 waterproofing

As for the software, you can expect the same clean Android Wear UI we know and love from the G Watch and other Android Wear devices. What do you think of LG’s second attempt at an Android Wear device, impressed or not?
