HTC sent out a press release earlier today announcing their intentions to hit the US market hard with the release of several new mid-range handsets arriving later this year. While we’ve already seen both the HTC Desire 610 (AT&T) and its bigger brother, the HTC Desire 816 (Virgin Mobile) launch in the US recently, HTC says these are only the “first of many” HTC Desire smartphones to launch in the US in the coming months.
Enter a slew of new leaks from the up-and-coming @upleaks, a new tipster officially endorsed by @evleaks before he formally announced his retirement last week. The leaks show a new Desire handset said to be bound for Sprint. While similar to the HTC Desire 610, the device seems to be a bit on the lower-end, missing HTC’s now trademark BoomSound stereo front facing speakers. Other specs include a 4.7-inch FWVGA, Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor capable of 64-bit processing, 5MP/VGA cameras, and running on Android 4.4.2 with Sense 6.0. We have little doubt this is one of the many Desire devices HTC has planned for the US this year and await an official announcement.
Moving onto things a little more official, the HTC Desire 816 — which QVC was actually offering last week for $200 — will officially launch tomorrow for Virgin Mobile. Priced at $300, the phone makes an enticing option in Virgin’s no-contacts wireless device plans. Quick spec rundown shows the Desire 816 coming with a 5.5-inch 720p display, 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB internal storage (with support for 128GB micro SD cards), 13MP camera and 5MP front facing camera. A nice combination of hardware for the money, especially in the larger phablet category.
