HTC just informed us that the Desire 816 will be available at Virgin Mobile beginning tomorrow for just $299. Now remember that is the off-contract price since Virgin Mobile is a prepaid carrier and doesn’t do contracts. The Desire 816 is a 5.5-inch device with front-facing Boomsound speakers. It’s actually a pretty great device for the price of $299, especially if you’re looking for a larger smartphone.
“The HTC Desire 816 builds on the HTC Desire 610 with enhanced specifications, including a 5.5” HD720 display, a 1.6GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ CPU, 1.5GB RAM and the same on-board storage with support for up to 128GB expandable storage. For more serious shutterbugs, the main camera packs 13 megapixels, and also features 1080 Full HD video recording, while the 5-megapixel front camera features a wide-angle lens. Both have a back side-illuminated (BSI) sensor for enhanced captures in low-light conditions.”
The Desire 816 follows the Desire 610 which launched on AT&T earlier this summer, and is no on sale for $199 off-contract in AT&T’s back-to-school sale. HTC says these are the first of many Desire smartphones coming to the US and it’s about time. As we’ve been seeing some great Desire handsets in Europe and the rest of the world, but they never seem to come to the US, until now.
With both the Desire 816 and Desire 610, we’ve got the HTC Zoe feature as well as Boomsound which are two of HTC’s biggest features that everyone loves.
