Do you remember some time back Motorola teamed up with VivaLnk offering Digital Tattoos? If you don’t then yes Motorola and VivaLnk did indeed team up offering what they were calling Digital tattoos. In short these tattoos were thin pieces of plastic that you would stick to your arm. Once you were wearing the tattoo, it could be used for easy unlocking of your Motorola Moto X instead of the typical pattern or pin. Wearers could simply touch their Moto X with their new tattoo and the phone would unlock. The wonders of NFC! It is not clear how popular the tattoos were and there were issues as to whether they were a bit gimmicky. For instance, they had no longevity in terms of usage with each tattoo lasting at most five days before becoming unwearable. As such if you were planning on using these as a permanent solution then it would likely get quite pricey with each tattoo costing roughly $1. So after the initial reports I personally did not hear too much about them. Then again not a Moto X owner so maybe just was not listening so much.
Fast forward and starting to get a feeling of Déjà Vu. It seems the Digital Tattoo revolution is back and this time it’s looking to take on the whole of the Android world. Yes folks, VivaLnk (Motorola’s collaborators the first time around) are back with their latest incarnation, the eSkin Tattoos. Now to be clear these seem identical to Motorola’s. However unlike the Motorola’s these are designed to work with any Android device with NFC capabilities. So now everyone can stick a piece of plastic on their arm and avoid the arduous task of drawing a pattern or entering a four digit code. Again like the original Motorola’s ones these are temporary solutions and are expected to last roughly a week before they come off. Again these are waterproof so no worries for our California and Australian readers. You can surf and NFC to your heart’s content.
If unlike me, you do suffer with tattoo envy and simply need eSkins, then like the Motorola offerings they are available in a packs of 10. For the pack the cost is $11.99 and they can be purchased directly from VivaLnk or of course by clicking here. International readers, sorry guys it seems VivaLnk are only shipping to the US at present although that may change in the future.
