Sony And AVG Team Up To Offer Xperia Devices Mobile Security For The Next Three Years

There are many reasons to think about getting Sony’s new Flagship device, the Sony Xperia Z3. The device was officially unveiled last month at IFA and since then has attracted a good deal of attention and momentum. The Z3 is expected to launch later on this month and expected to land on T-Mobile. The pre-release buzz for the Z3 does highly suggest it will sell rather well. In terms of what you get the Z3 offers a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The device is loaded with 3GB RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor (clocked at 2.5GHz). It is expected to be released in both 16 and 32GB variants and both coming with the standard microSD card slot (up to 128GB). As it is a Sony, you would expect a big spec camera and this is what you get with the rear camera consisting of a 20.7MP shooter while the front camera is more modest at 2.2MP. The device runs on Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) along with Sony’s UI imprinted on top. All in all, a rather decent looking and sounding phone.

If all that wasn’t enough it now seems Sony are looking for extra things to bundle in with the phone when it is released. In the last 24 hours it has been announced that Sony and AVG have entered into a three year partnership which will see AVG exclusively be the only mobile security solution offered for Xperia devices. This means for the next three years any Xperia device you purchase will come with AVG pre-installed and ready to go. As a result AVG have announced that Xperia users will receive a six month (180 days) free license to their premium AVG security service. At the end of the six months users can then purchase an extension of the licence or simply install the free version.

Although the announcement of the AVG/Xperia partnership has only just been made official there were signs this was on its way. A couple of weeks ago a rather revealing AVG app popped up on the Play Store. Entitled ‘AVG AntiVirus Pro for Xperia’ the app is rather self-explanatory as the app that will come pre-installed on Xperia devices. The listing on Play does advise that this app is compatible with all Xperia models running Android 2.3.3 and higher and as such should be able to be installed on older Xperia variants as well as the newer devices. In addition, the Play listing does also list the 180 day free trial with no indication that this is only for the newer devices. So if you do currently own an older model it is probably worth downloading the app and installing the free trial. Six months free (premium) protection shouldn’t be stiffed at and especially when it can be yours regardless of whether or not you buy the soon-arriving Z3.
