Philips I928 Gets A Price Cut In China, You Can Get It For 1,999 Yuan Now

Philips I928_1

Philips isn’t exactly the first brand you think of when you’re talking about smartphones. We haven’t heard much from this Dutch company for a while (at least not as far as smartphone goes) and then the company announced a rather powerful smartphone back in May, Philips I928. The device was rather expensive once it launched, it was priced at 3299 Yuan ($537) but it seems its price has gone down drastically now. Chinese customers can purchase the device via Jingdong Mall (source link below) for as low as 1999 Yuan ($326). We’re talking about a 3G phone with 16GB of internal storage here. Anyhow, let’s check out the full specs.

The device sports a 6-inch full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080) curved glass display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of in-built storage (expandable via MicroSD card). Philips I928 is powered by MediaTek’s MT6592 octa-core processor which comes with Mali-450 GPU for graphics processing. On the back of it, you’ll find a 13-megapixel main camera with f2.0 aperture while there’s a 5-megapixel shooter located on the front of this device. This is a Dual-SIM device and it packs a 3000mAh battery on the inside. The device measures 160 x 81 x 8.2mm and it comes with Android 4.2.2 JellyBean, which seems a bit outdated though.

This is a huge difference in price compared to what it cost before. This is a rather well-specced device though it doesn’t exactly surprise me it didn’t sell all that well. As I said at the beginning of this article, Philips is a rather well-known brand, but it’s not a well-known smartphone manufacturer. Not only does the company doesn’t have a recognized smartphone brand, but they heavily overpriced this device at launch. Still, this might be a good deal for some people even though I’d argue there are better devices for purchase at that price point in China. What do you think, does this device appeal to you at all? I doubt many people will bite, even at this price, though it would be nice to see Philips get back in the smartphone game like a serious competitor.
