We are on the cusp of a new generation of Android, and it’s going to be big. Google just unveiled both their new flagship smartphone and tablet, the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. Google also unveiled Android 5.0 Lollipop, the companies biggest overhaul of the Android operating system ever. Unfortunately, because of this, Google has taken their Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets off of the Play Store and will no longer be selling them.
All variants of both the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 are no longer for sale through the Play Store, Google has made room for the new. But that’s not always the best thing to do. We understand taking the Nexus 10 off of the Play Store due to its age and the fact that it never really sold all that well, it’s the 2013 Nexus 7 that we don’t understand. The 2013 Nexus 7 sold like hotcakes, not just through the Play Store but everywhere that it was sold. Places like Best Buy and T-Mobile stores always seemed to be sold out of the popular 7-inch tablet, people loved that tablet. It was the perfect size at 7-inches, offered a beautiful display, great battery life, and above all, it looked good. The Nexus 7 and Nexus 9 could and should have co-existed on the Play Store for at least another 6 or 7 months before Google discontinued the Nexus 7, they would have been a great combination and been two great sizes to choose from.
The 2013 Nexus 7 was arguably the best Nexus device that Google ever offered and we here at Android Headlines are sad to see the little guy go away. There is a part of us that hopes that the 2013 Nexus 7 pops back up on the Play Store for a few more months sometime soon but we know that will more than likely not be the case. Fortunately, if you still want a Nexus 7 tablet, there are still ways to get your hands on one. For example, for the time being, Amazon and eBay still offer the Tablet brand new as well as some retail locations such as Best Buy. But sadly, once their stock runs out these places will no longer be able to offer the Nexus 7 and it will die off for good.
We know that this week has been very exciting and filled with great news of new devices and software but with good news usually comes bad news. The bad news for this situation is the death of an amazing tablet that all of us Android fans loved and adored. Goodbye Nexus 7, you had a good run and you will be missed.
