Quick question out there, how many of you used the homescreen widget for the YouTube app? I bet a lot of you didn’t even know there was one. Well according to Google, about 1 in every 200 Android users were actually using that widget. Which translates to about 0.5% of all Android users. Which is a very small portion. Heck there are still more people on Froyo and Eclair than that. So Google decided to get rid of it. Which I can see why. If there’s barely anyone using it, might as well get rid of it and make some extra room in the app. That will definitely make those Android One users happier.
Google is going to be using the resources that the widget used to make “What to Watch” better on the YouTube app. Other than dropping the widget, there’s really nothing else new in this update to YouTube. However, what Android Police did notice, while digging through the code, is that the upcoming “Warp” feature has been renamed to “Transfer” as demonstrated in the code below:

From what it looks like, this will allow you to transfer a video from one device to another without wifi or data connectivity. It does this using Bluetooth and WiFi Direct. It looks like it’s going to be a bit clunky at least at first. And I’m not sure why you’d ever want to use it anyways.

Just download the APK below, then open it up on your device (make sure “Unknown Sources” is checked in settings > security first) then let it install. It will install over your current install of YouTube though.
