What is Blinq Launcher
Blinq Launcher is a home screen replacement application. It has a lot of standard features and some customization options. It’s claim to fame is the “gesture anywhere” feature where you can gesture on any screen whenever you need to for any reason.
The launcher has quite a few features and is based on the Android 4.4 launcher. Some of the highlights include customizable folder options, custom grid sizes, fonts and transition options, “Okay Google” to open Google Now, and back up and restore settings. A lot of these are run of the mill for third party launchers which means you won’t be missing out on much if you decide to use Blinq.
Blinq Launcher’s biggest feature is its gesture control feature. It takes a while to configure and you can create a whole bunch of gestures. Once done you’ll be able to open apps and perform tasks by using simple gestures. This is great if you switch between apps fairly often. You can assign gestures to apps and then when you need to go to the app, you just draw the gesture and the app opens up. It’s something a little different and a little fun once you get used to it.
There are some extra things as well. It comes with a selection of wallpapers which is a nice touch. The premium version includes more features such as unread counts on apps (such as Gmail and Facebook), more transition animations, more gestures to play with, and some extra stuff. We do recommend you try out the free version before buying anything so you can make sure you’re spending money you actually want to spend.
Gesture like a boss.
- Has a lot of the ubiquitous third party launcher features which is good news.
- Enhanced gesture control is phenomenally implemented (if a little simplistic sometimes).
- Based on the Android 4.4 launcher which is good.
- Free and paid version features are well divided.
- Extra stuff like unread counts on apps and Okay Google support is a nice touch.
- It takes a long time to set up all the gestures. Prepare for a lengthy set up process.
- There are some features its missing but it's mostly customization features.
- Older devices may have some lag and/or bug issues.
Overall, Blinq Launcher is a solid offering. It doesn’t have as many features as other launchers but its gesture controls are pretty unique and fun once you get them set up. It does have its issues but most of it is free to use so you can see if it’s for you before buying anything.
