Nexus 9 To Launch On October 16th According To MoDaCo Founder, Paul O’Brien

We’ve seen tons of rumors when it comes to Google’s upcoming Nexus tablet. It’s been called many names over the last weeks / months… Nexus 8, Nexus 9, HTC Volantis and HTC Flounder. We’re not even a 100% sure HTC will be the manufacturer of this upcoming tablet with Google’s very own software offering on the inside. Everything is pointing towards that fact though, so I guess we can assume as much. Earlier this month a leaked document claimed the device is indeed made by HTC and that it will sport NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 64-bit chip on the inside, as many rumors have stated before this one. We’ve seen yet another Nexus 9 rumor earlier this month stating that the device might see the light of day at HTC’s event on October 8th. That might not be the case though.

Paul O’Brien who is a MoDaCo founder and an Android developer is usually a reliable source of information when it comes to Android. He was spot on when it comes Nexus 5 launch last year (he was off by a day). “Anonymous tipster: The HTC Nexus 9 will be launched on 16th October…” was his tweet today. According to Mr. O’Brien, this information comes from an anonymous tipster, but we doubt that’s the case considering he’s not exactly known for sharing every anonymous information he receives. I don’t think he would share this information if he doesn’t believe it to some extent, perhaps he even wrote that in order to protect the tipster’s identity. Be as it may, this date is actually quite plausible, presuming HTC doesn’t release the device at its own event on October 8th that is.

There were many rumors regarding the specifications of this tablet, some more plausible than others. The device is expected to sport an 8.9-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display and will HTC is the most probable manufacturer of this device. Everything is pointing towards Tegra K1 as the processor of choice. BoomSound speakers are also expected as part of the package and as far as RAM is concerned, all kinds of information has been going around. 4 and even 5GB of RAM was mentioned, if I had to guess I’d say the device will sport 3 or 4GB of RAM though, I’m leaning towards the former though.
