comScore AH

Every month we get the latest data results from a variety of sources on how the android platform and its many inhabitants are shaping us. One of those routine data sources is comScore who provide information on the overall successes, rises and falls of the various manufacturers and the different Android operating systems. Today we get to see the latest numbers in terms of manufacturer and platform market share in the U.S.

In terms of platforms and over a three-month period ending in December 2014, Android reigned supreme with a 53.1% share of the overall platform market. This actually equated to a 1% rise from the last three month period (ending September) in which Android managed a share of 52.1%. It won’t be much of a surprise to learn Apple came in second place in the U.S. with an overall market share of 41.6% which is actually a 0.1% drop compared to the same previous three month period (ending September) of 41.7%. Following on, third place was taken by Microsoft, fourth place by BlackBerry and 5th place by Symbian with 3.4%, 1.8% and 0.1% respectively. For Microsoft and Blackberry, this represented a slight drop over the three month period while Symbian remained dead level with the previous periods 0.1% share.

In terms of manufacturers, again it will not be a surprise to hear that Apple came in first in the U.S. with an overall smartphone share of 41.6% of the market. In second place was Samsung who managed 29.7% market share. Which in spite of the recently reported bad times for Samsung, this actually resulted in a 0.7% increase compared to the previous quarter. LG also saw an increase on the previous quarter with their market share moving up from 6.9% to 8.0%. While both Motorola and HTC saw slight drops in their figures. Motorola dropped down from 5.4% to 5.2% while HTC’s drop was slightly larger, from 4.4% down to 3.7%. Overall, none of these figures were too distant from what we have seen in the previous comScore reports and instead maintain a consistent trend. What do you think of the latest figures? Do you see these changing over the coming months and year? Let us know your thoughts.
