Xiaomi Mi Note Pro Might Ship With Android 5.0 Lollipop After All

AH Xiaomi Note Pro-6

Xiaomi has unveiled their new, Mi Note, line of devices on January 15. As part of that line, the company has introduced the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro devices, both of which are high-end offerings, but the Mi Note Pro is definitely the more powerful one. These two handsets are basically the same as far as the design goes, but there are some significant differences in the spec department. The Mi Note handset sports a 5.7-inch 1080p display, 3GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 801 quad-core CPU, a 3,000mAh battery and will be available in 16 and 64GB variants. The Mi Note Pro, on the other hand, features a 5.7-inch 2K display, 4GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core SoC, a 3,090mAh battery and will be available in 64GB variant only.

That being said, initial reports claimed that both of these devices will ship with Android 4.4.4 KitKat pre-installed, but the latest benchmark info which appeared in China claims otherwise. The on-screen info page claims that the device will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop (MIUI 6 on top of it), not KitKat, which are great news. Interesting thing though, this listing doesn’t refer to the Mi Note Pro as such, but it says “Mi Note PLUS” for some reason. Xiaomi won’t change the name of their device, they announced it as the Mi Note Pro, so I have no idea why is it listed here as the Mi Note Plus. That really doesn’t matter at this point, the most important thing is that it will ship with Lollipop it seems.

In addition to the already listed specifications for the Mi Note Pro, this device also features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera (Sony IMX214 BSI sensor) and a 4-megapixel front-facing shooter (2um pixel size, like the HTC One M8). As I already said, this handset will be available in 64GB variant only, and it will cost 3,299 Yuan ($531) once it becomes available. The device is expected to go on sale in March, though nothing has been confirmed just yet, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens I guess. What are your thoughts here, are you surprised to see Android 5.0 Lollipop as part of the mix?
