In the past, we’ve reviewed the Logitech UE Boom speakers. There’s the Boom and Mini Boom, both of which are fantastic speakers. Now we’ve got our hands on the MegaBoom Speaker. Which is a much bigger speaker compared to the Boom, and it has more battery life, more sound, and more everything basically. I’ve got the red model here that I’m reviewing. Which is a really sharp looking speaker actually. It does have NFC, so you can tap your phone on the volume buttons of the speaker and pair them. It’s very easy to pair this speaker with any Bluetooth device, whether via NFC or the “old fashioned” way. There’s also a power button up top along with a Bluetooth button. On the bottom, there’s a plastic flap that hides the micro USB port for charging, a tripod mount and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It’s interesting that you can mount this on a tripod. You don’t see that in many speakers these days.
So what about the audio? That’s one of the most important features of a speaker these days. It has some really great sound coming out of this thing. I’ve been using it for about 4-5 hours everyday for the past week or two, and absolutely love the sound that comes out of this speaker. Basically it’s the UE Boom, but bigger and better. I don’t think you’ll find another speaker in this $300 price range with this type of sound.
Battery life is pretty great as well. Logitech touts 20 hours of battery life. Obviously that depends on the volume that you’re using the speaker at, but for me, it’s lasted much longer than 20 hours of continuous use. Epic battery life, epic sound, what else could you ask for in a speaker that’s this size.
With the UE MegaBoom, you can connect it to other MegaBoom’s as well as Boom speakers. Using the UE MegaBoom app. It’s quite simple to connect them. Additionally you can use the MegaBoom as an alarm and wake up to whatever music you want your speaker to play. But be careful, if you have it too loud, it could scare the crap out of you. One other feature that most tech geeks are going to drool over is the fact that the MegaBoom features Google Cast. The new technology that Google announced at CES earlier this month. And it works flawlessly. It’s just like throwing music onto your TV, or movies onto your TV, except, it’s your speaker.
Logitech is selling the UE MegaBoom right now on their site for about $299. It may seem like a pretty hefty price tag, but when you compare it to other speakers of this quality, it’s actually not bad at all. So if you’re looking for a great Bluetooth Speaker with great battery life, Logitech’s UE MegaBoom is the one you want.
