Meizu has been relatively quiet lately, ever since they launched their M1 Note handset back in December. That will change soon, because the company has announced that they’ll launch something on January 28, and by the looks of it, the company might launch a slew of new hardware at that event. Meizu M1 Mini (or whatever they’ll call it in the end) has been rumored for a long time now and we’ve been getting some leaks lately. That’s not all we’ll see launched there, Meizu has released a teaser with the keyword “Connected” lately, which suggested they’ll release some smart / connected home devices at their event.
Well, Meizu has just announced that they agreed on a partnership with Haier, a China-based multinational consumer electronics and home appliances company. This basically confirms we’ll see some connected home devices launched on January 28, the question is which ones. Haier makes washing machines, air conditioners, TVs, phones, tablets… you name it. They even have factories all over the world, in Asia, U.S. and Europe. Meizu did not disclose any specifics regarding this partnership, but it’s quite obvious why they signed an agreement with Haier, Meizu is definitely entering the “Connected Home” market.
Meizu’s main competitor in China is Xiaomi, well, at least in my opinion. Xiaomi has been making such devices for a while now, though they’re not overly experienced in that market either, so Meizu still has time to show us what they got and basically get a big chunk of the market for themselves. It seems like the company’s January 28 event will be focused on connected home products rather than the launch of M1 Mini, but who knows. What is certain though, this will be a huge event for Meizu and it will be interesting to see if they can actually compete with the likes of Xiaomi in this department. 2015 is an important year for both of these companies and we’ll see which one of them will come out on top. What are your thoughts here, what do you think Meizu will unveil on January 28?
