Technology is advancing at an amazing pace, current-gen processor (and the rest of technology actually) become obsolete relatively quickly. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chip has just arrived, first phones sporting that chip are supposed to become available soon and it seems like the Snapdragon 820 is already in the works. Same goes for Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 930 chip which got announced recently, Kirin 950 might be in the works as well. Let me explain.
Analyst from China posted this information on Weibo (China’s social network) today, they even revealed some details about these chips. According to them, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC is in the works and the model number is MSM8996. This chip will be built around the latest 14nm manufacturing process, which will make it even more p0wer efficient. Truth be told, this doesn’t mean the processor will be released anytime soon, but still, it seems a bit early for this sort of reports. The Snapdragon 810 hasn’t even reached the market properly. As I said, same can be said about Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 930 chip. According to the report, Huawei is working hard on its successor, the Kirin 950. This chip is said to use the 16nm manufacturing process and will allegedly power on the Huawei P8 handset, which we talked about earlier today.
Keep in mind that this is just an analyst report, it doesn’t have to mean anything, but it beats the regular rumor, that’s for sure. Of course these companies already started working on their chips, but it just struck me as odd we started receiving this sort of information so soon, before these processors even reached the market properly. Unfortunately, the analysts didn’t share any additional information regarding these chips, but I’m sure we’ll hear more about each one of them in the coming months, not that we need anything more powerful than the Snapdragon 810 or the Kirin 930 at the moment. Both of those chips are more than capable of handling basically anything, which is to be expected, they’re the flagship processor offerings of their respective companies. That being said, which processor is powering on your current daily driver?
