OnePlus to make Two models for all Future Products: North American and European

OnePlus-One-out2

At CES, Nick just wrapped up his 30 minute long interview with Carl Pei of OnePlus. Which we have the full interview here if you want to read it. Carl mentioned in the interview that they will be making two models of the OnePlus Two and all other products in the future. Why? Well with the OnePlus One, it wasn’t too popular in Europe and that was due to the bands it supported. While it supported all the bands here in the US, thanks to the Snapdragon 801 processor inside, it didn’t support all of the UK and the rest of Europe’s bands. Check out the excerpt from the interview down below:

Nick: In terms of bands that are supported, in the UK only one band is supported. Were you planning to come out with another version to support them?

Carl: For future products there will be an American and an European version.

So similar to Google with the Nexus (prior to the Nexus 6) there will be two variants. An European variant and an American variant. Which I think is a good idea. As there are a ton of people in Europe that would probably love to pick up a OnePlus One but can’t because it doesn’t fully support the network they are on. It’s likely that there will be no differences between these two other than the bands it supports, so there shouldn’t be any issues with software updates on future products.

However, when it comes to CDMA carriers like Sprint and Verizon, their customers are still out of luck. But OnePlus did say that they might be looking to work with carriers in 2016. But as for now, they are more interested in emerging markets. Which is a brilliant idea. After seeing the success of Android One, emerging markets – like India for example – is where it’s at right now.
