Yesterday we learned that Sony would be among a handful of brands that would be baking Android TV into their entire 2015 lineup of TV’s that include 4K televisions as well as others. This is a big step for Sony as they were the original partner for Google with the Google TV platform back when it launched, and they’re continuing to forge a relationship with Google in this regard when it comes to powering their smart tv needs for this year. In direct relation to this, MediaTek and Sony have announced on January 6th 2015 that MediaTek will powering the very first Sony TV powered by the Android TV platform.

Thanks to Android TV’s seamless user functionality experiences, consumers will be able to stream content, look for things to watch, listen to, or play all with the use of Content Voice Search. Earlier this morning MediaTek also announced they’re partnership with Google to use the MediaTek MT5595 SoC to power the world’s first UHD TV powered by Android TV, a chipset that is developed to support the Google VP9 and HVEC codecs, which are designed for 4K2K content streaming which Sony’s first Android TV powered television will also support.

Sony and MediaTek are demonstrating Sony’s first Android TV at CES2015, where consumers will be able to experience all the cool things that Android TV is able to offer. The Android TV platform is also Google Cast ready, which makes Sony’s first TV powered by Android TV Google Cast ready as well, and enables users to stream their favorite content right to the TV with just a tap on the screen of their smartphones like they would do with the Chromecast. Users can also stream content from PC’s or laptop’s through the Chrome browser to Sony’s Android TV thanks to the Google Cast technology built into it. Sony has made it clear that they have a strong commitment to providing the best possible experience to TV viewers in the living room, something MediaTek is also heavily invested in as a long time contributor in the TV SoC market. By powering Sony’s first Android TV, MediaTek joins Sony in forging the future of innovation in this year’s TV lineup.
