Microsoft Opens Their ‘Office For Android Tablets’ Preview To Everyone

AH Microsoft Logo 1.3 Microsoft have been going through a bit of a transformation period recently. Their operating system has seen a steady decline in the more general sense with users opting to go with alternative solutions. As a result, it has seemed like Microsoft have been trying to reposition themselves within the market and especially in terms of how closed-off their products are. As such we have a seen a number of products hitting the market by Microsoft which come immediately compatible with Android devices. Of course, when people think of Microsoft, most of the time only one product comes to mind and that is Microsoft Office.

Well, you might remember that back in November, Microsoft launched an Office preview app suite which was specifically designed for android tablets. When the new tablet preview suite was initially launched, it was stated that this would be an invite-only preview and that is exactly what followed. Interested users had to sign-up and advise Microsoft what tablet they were using to gain access to the suite. If approved the access was then granted. This was presumably so Microsoft could beta test the app on a decent cross-section of the market.

Well, if you had not asked for permission to try the beta (or were actually refused) then it looks like the time has finally come for everyone to try the Microsoft Office tablet preview. Microsoft have this morning announced that the preview apps have now gone live for everyone and no longer need a request or invite to use. To be clear, the apps have not gone live as full release apps and instead are still being beta tested. Instead, Microsoft have simply opened up the preview to allow for even greater cross-tablet referencing. The only notable caveats listed by Microsoft is that “To participate in the preview, you can use an ARM-based Android tablet running KitKat or Lollipop, with a screen size between 7″ and 10.1″. Otherwise, it seems the apps can be directly downloaded from the Play Store. This includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
