Google And Desserts; What Will The Next Android Version Be Called?

AH Android L Logo

Over the years we have come to know each major Android release by the name of a well known sweet treat that started with the same letter each OS version was representing. Most recently has been Android Kit Kat which as many of you know started with Android 4.4. While there is still much speculation on what the next version of Android will be called, there are plenty of good guesses on which dessert Google might choose this time around. Android L, as it’s currently known, or you can call it Android 5.0,(either will do for the purpose of reference)is being tossed around with many different possibilities for the accompanying dessert.

There have been a few references in some of the Android L code in the past with the tag LMP, so logically the most reasonable guess might be Lemon Meringue Pie, however another really popular guess has been Lollipop, giving those two probably the largest number of supporters in terms of guesses on what Android L will transform into. With Google’s recent partnership with Nestle and Kit Kat, some have reason to believe that Google might go that same route and partner up for another candy related name release, in what has manifested as a popular UK chocolate bar called a Lion Bar, another Nestle chocolate bar product. Going off of that alone it isn’t a far fetched possibility, however I believe it’s more likely it’ll be Lemon Meringue Pie before Lion bar.

Licorice, Layer Cake and Lava Cake have also been mentioned as possible options by people in the community for Google’s choice of a sweet dessert, but really when you get right down to it the only one that really makes any sense is Lemon Meringue Pie due to the “LMP” references we have seen. Even if that is the internal reference that Google is using, they could end up changing their minds and use another name, as this is what they did with the last version release. Kit Kat was originally Key Lime Pie, so even Lemon Meringue Pie as it were, could change to another dessert. If we’re really close to the launch of Android L and the next couple of Nexus devices, Google could have already settled on a version name. What are your thoughts on the whole thing? Talk on the dessert name to accompany the release is all speculation but it’s fun to guess. What do you think Android L will be called?
