Gifs have become one of the most popular ways to communicate on the internet. Pretty much any social media site worth their salt supports them and you’ve no doubt seen people post links to gifs. They’re great for instant and quick humor. They’re even better when used as a reaction (called reaction gifs) as a little three to five second gif often relays your opinion and reaction better than words do. If you’re up to the task, here are some Android apps that let you create a gif on your own.
GifBoom: Animated GIF Camera
[Price: Free]
First up is GifBoom and we included this one because the GifBoom website is one of the most popular gif sites out there. With this you can use your camera or images from your gallery to create gifs. You can create gifs that are up to 60 seconds long which is longer than many other apps. There are also a number of other features that let you create and customize your gifs using your own stuff or using your camera. It does have a quite a few bugs and some people are not happy with it. Even so, it is free and that means it’s worth a shot.
Fixie GIF Camera
[Price: Free with in app purchases]
This is your run of the mill gif camera that lets you record something that’s happening and then it renders it as a gif. There are some extra features like stickers and text should you need that. This is great for those gif creators who want to create only unique stuff themselves instead of creating it out of other content. It works pretty well and most people seem to like it well enough. Like others, there are bugs.
GIF Camera
[Price: Free]
GIF Camera is much like Fixie above. It lets you create your own gifs using your camera roll or you can record a short segment of video to turn into a gif. It’s not as robust as a web editor but it seems to be among the most popular and highest rated GIF apps on Android. It is totally free so it can’t hurt to try it out. It’s good to keep around just in case.
Gif creator
[Price: Free with in app purchases]
Gif creator does what the name says it does. At least it does most of the time. This app lets you create 30 second gifs using videos and photos from your camera roll. You can also use your camera to shoot video for a gif in the app as well. The features are pretty bare bones and the user reviews reflect that. The main focus of the app is to show you the animations other people have made. If you want to try something bare bones, this may be a good option for you.
Gif Maker
[Price: Free]
As you’ve likely ascertained by now, Gif Maker lets you make gifs. Like these others you can use your camera and your camera roll if you want to. You can use up to 50 images to create a single gif if you so choose. There is also a gif collage feature that lets you collage up to nine photos. You can also shoot up to 25 seconds of video for a gif if you so choose. Like most of these, there are bugs that many people have run into.
Wrap up
If we missed any great Android apps that create gifs, let us know in the comments. In our honest opinion, creating high quality gifs on Android isn’t something that is doable with anything resembling reliability just yet. Frankly, you’ll enjoy the experience a lot more if you wait until you can use a more robust gif creator online. However, these will do in a pinch if you don’t mind your gifs not coming out totally flawless or you just need something very simple.
