Sony Xperia Z2 Drops Nearly $200 In Price In Preparation For The Z3

You can always tell when a manufacturer is about to launch their new device in your region as its predecessor normally ends up being massively cut in price. It seems Sony is no different. With the Xperia Z3 getting its debut at IFA it was always going to be curtains for the Z2. However it is worth noting that the launch of the Z3 was a little surprising as the Z2 was also a 2014 release albeit in January. Although from Sony’s perspective they couldn’t let Samsung, Moto and the rest grab all the headlines at IFA and so needed to push something out. Either way it now seems Sony have knocked nearly $200 off of the price. The previously priced $749.99 devices is now on sale in the Sony shop for $579.99. When you consider the actual differences between the Z3 and Z2 are rather minimal this might be a good time to pick up the Z2 at a good discount. Back in July the Z2 did receive a small price-cut ($50) but since its release nothing near as big as the current price-drop.

If the price did interest you then you better know the specs right! Well, the Z2 offers a 5.2” Full HD screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution (424 ppi). Inside the Z2 comes with 3GB of RAM and a Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor (clocks at 2.3GHz). In terms of cameras, the rear camera is excellent offering a 20.7 MP shooter while the front shooter is more modest with a 2.2 MP camera. If storage is your thing then the Z2 comes as standard with 16 GB and also the standard micro SD card slot (up to 128 GB).The Z2 is dustproof and waterproof (up to 30 minutes), comes with a 3100 mAh battery and running on Android 4.4.2 (KitKat). Lastly, the Z2 is available in black, white and purple and comes unlocked (carrier-free) out of the box.

Now before you ask. The price-cut does certainly suggest the Z3 is nearing its US release however it does not mean that it is imminent. At present, we still do not have any firm details on when the Z3 will hit the US market. However with the currently available flagship dropping in price by 25% this is a good indicator Sony wants to clear the stock they have. Any takers?
