Updated Opera Browser brings new tab management and an important security patch

Opera browser update

As far as updates to Android web browsers go, Opera is currently pushing a pretty good one. A new version of Opera for Android is ready for update, or download a fresh copy from the Google Play store. The update brings a few new items, the best of which include a new UI for switching between tabs and improvements on resuming downloads after pause or crash.

Tap and swipe to manage tabs in the new tab manager, swipe side to side to choose from the open tabs, and simply swipe up to close a tab. The new menu at the bottom is customizable and is designed for easy one handed operation.

Resuming your downloads from pause is not all that new to Opera, but many have been experiencing failures, especially when downloading larger files. Opera made sure to fix the crashes, even when using their data-saving Off-road mode.

Opera is also touting improvements to the flow of their Discover feature, letting you swipe right to get to the next article in the category.

What app update would be complete without some bug and security patches? Opera was previously vulnerable to URL spoofing, to overly simplify it, which has thankfully now been patched.

Aside from a few other stability and UI improvements, like the ability to re-open recently closed tabs, that is about all there is in the changelog. Head on over to the Google Play Store on device to update or grab a fresh copy for yourself.

Are you an Opera user that will benefit from this update? If not, what is your Android browser of choice?
