The hour is drawing near when we finally get to see Amazon unveil their very first smartphone which takes place at their event in Seattle tomorrow on June 18th. There is lots of hype surrounding this device including the famed use of the 3D tracking technology built into the sensors which is said to be located in the front four corners of the device, and work in tandem with the gyroscope and accelerometer to provide better accuracy. To be quite honest, those details alone should be enough to get anyone interested in at least seeing this thing, even if it doesn’t end up being your next device.
If you thought the Amazon rumor mill was just about over with just because we’re about to see the long awaited smartphone from the online retail giant, you’d be sorely mistaken. Amazon doesn’t just have a smartphone in the works, but according to Bloomberg they are reportedly working on at least three other secret products to be released in the future. One of those products sounds like it would be a competitor to the popular Square payments system that has been growing and making its way into local retailers around the country, which could be set up to take payments using Amazon coins(just my own personal thought), or it could be Amazon’s direct competition for services and apps like PayPal and Google Wallet.
There are two other projects that we have apparently to look forward to with Amazon in the future, one of which is said to be a wireless speaker that responds to voice commands. There isn’t much detail as to what the speaker would do or how it would work, but it sounds interesting nonetheless. The third project being worked on by Amazon’s super secret R&D department is a device that can take a computer image and project it onto any surface. Think of it like a projector basically. There isn’t much detail there either, but just learning of these hardware efforts sounds like Amazon is really amping up their game in the product section. The Kindle, which is where Amazon started with hardware as a line of e-readers is also said to be getting a new slimmer version of the Paperwhite model that is internally referred to as “Ice Wine”. For current Kindle Paperwhite owners, a new and thinner model might be just what the doctor ordered.
