The Worlds First Ever Wireless Mobile Charging Trousers Are Here

As ridiculous as this may sound, wireless mobile-charging trousers are real. Now the first thing that I would like to point out is that these pants are not machine washable; just in case you were already wondering, because I was. So to get back to the matter at hand, British Fashion Designer Adrien Sauvage teamed up with Microsoft to create the worlds first ever trousers that can recharge your phone. Again, this may sound really ridiculous but maybe genius as well. “My phone is always dying so I was super interested in the idea,” said Adrien Sauvage. Microsoft and Mr. Sauvage started the project six months ago when he first started experimenting with wearable technology.

So how do these pants work? The “Wearable Chino” as described by Adrien Sauvage has been fitted with a wireless charging plate from a Nokia DC-50 and are placed within the front pockets of the trousers. Adrien Sauvage said that when creating the pants they went through a lot of “trial and error.” He also added “Having something that you could wear without the technology feeling cumbersome was a challenge. It was also difficult to distribute the heat so that the wearer wouldn’t feel like they were in a sauna.” Even with all of the trials and tribulations they encountered when engineering the trousers, they were able to overcome them and build prototypes. The prototypes of the wearable chinos will be modeled at Bloomsbury as part of Adrien Sauvage’s spring/summer show at London Collections for Men. Adam Johnson, head of marketing for Nokia Devices admitted “We don’t see a mass-market opportunity for wireless-charging trousers.” Adam Johnson also supported the project and later added “We’re just having a bit of a hack, trying to move the wearable technology concept beyond smart watches. This is a world first.”

Adrien Sauvage predicts that fashion designers will implement technology in their clothes stating “It’s already happening with sportswear and people use their phones so much that technology like this will be increasingly integrated into clothing.” The idea sounds a little too spaced out but hey, we all may start wearing pants that can charge our phones. If you want to get your hands on a pair of wireless mobile-charging pants, they will be available to buy for the next three months on Amazons fashion store. There is not a set price for the pants but Mr Sauvage predicts that his wearable chinos will cost over $340.
