Nike Fuelband app arrives to Android, arguably too little too late

Despite the fact that Android is the most popular mobile operating system across the globe, Nike has long held out from supporting its Fuelband wearable on the platform. Now that the wearable fitness device is all-but dead in the water, it seems Nike has had a change of heart.

Starting today, you can now use the Fuelband SE on Android, at least if you happen to have a Galaxy S5, S4, S3, Nexus 5, HTC One or Moto X. While you can grab the app for free from Google Play, it obviously won’t do you much good without first picking up a Fuelband.

So what exactly can a Fuelband do? Honestly, it’s not too much different from the many other solutions out there, which means you can estimate calories burned, set goals, and track your workout time. Nike also gives out Fuelband points for the more activities you accomplish, which could make the Fuelband useful if you have a friend with one and like the idea competing to see who can get the most points.

The Fuelband will run you around $120 on Amazon (slight differences depending on the size of band you need), which isn’t a horrible price for this kind of thing. That said, Nike hasn’t been doing too hot in the wearable market, so you could be buying into a platform that will likely soon go extinct.
