The Unofficial Android 5.0.1 ROM Is Now Available For Xiaomi’s Redmi 1S Handset

Xiaomi is one of the fastest growing smartphone manufacturer in the world. This China-based company is making extremely well-built and well-specced handsets and somehow manages to keep their prices rather low compared to the competition. That being said, Redmi 1S is one of the most successful Xiaomi handsets in 2014. This smartphone is probably not the best example of a high-end device considering this is a pure mid-range device, but the phone is well-specced for its price and Xiaomi has sold tons of Redmi 1S units this year, mainly in China and India.

If you own a Redmi 1S handset and can’t wait to get the Lollipop update, you’re in luck. An unofficial Android 5.0.1 Lollipop ROM has surfaced on MIUI.com for those of you who like to tweak your devices. Keep in mind that this is not the MIUI build of Lollipop, but is based on stock Lollipop offering by Google, and once again, it is not official in any way, shape or form. The Redmi 1S Android L Mokee ROM (as it’s called) is in beta at the moment, but the stable version of this ROM is expected to launch within 10 days. The Redmi 1S features a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS LCD display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 32GB). This device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz which comes with an Adreno 305 GPU. On the back of the device you can find an 8-megapixel camera, while there’s a 1.6-megapixel shooter located on the front of the device. This handset comes with a 2000mAh battery and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean pre-installed with Xiaomi’s MIUI OS on top of it. 137 x 69 x 9.9mm are the measurements of the device while it weighs 158 grams. This is a dual SIM device and it sports 3G connection along with other connectivity options and the usual array of sensors.
