Google’s Android One program was launched back in September when the company partnered up with Karbonn, Spice and Micromax in order to release three Android One-powered handsets in India. Ever since that happened, people have been guessing where will the second wave of these, Android One-powered, smartphones launch. Many leaks came our way, but nothing concrete, at least not until now.
Google has officially announced the launch of the Android One program in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Symphony, Bangladesh’s smartphone manufacturer which many of you probably never heard of, will launch the Symphony Roar A50, which will be their first Android One smartphone. “In these countries — with a combined population of over 200 million people — a wide range of manufacturers and network partners such as Banglalink will begin to sell Android One smartphones. In addition to Micromax, Karbonn and Spice, Bangladesh’s own Symphony will launch their first Android One phone with the Symphony Roar A50. All these devices will give people a high-quality mobile experience for an affordable price, running stock-Android with updates from Google.” said Google on company’s official Asia Pacific blog page. These handsets will of course run the stock version of Android and receive updates directly from Google, which is the point of this whole program.
More Android One devices will launch in 2015 and beyond, said Caesar Sengupta, VP of Product Management at Google. Android One devices didn’t exactly sell as well as Google (and partner manufacturers) have hoped, but that might change in the future, we’ll see. These are great news no matter which way you spin it, more and more manufacturers will release devices sporting the stock version of Android and will thus receive timely updates, which ultimately means there will be less low-mid range handset sporting poorly optimized skins which affect Android experience as a whole. Have you had the chance to play around with an Android One handset yet? If yes, how did you like it, if not, would you like to get your hands on one? Let us know, we always like to hear what you have to say.
