In perhaps the most unlikely of pairs, Cricket Wireless has announced that they will partner with Gamestop to begin selling phones. Gamestop already sells a handful of different tablets and tablet accessories, although they take more of a gaming approach, naturally, to selling those types of devices. The new partnership will see new phones and accessories for those devices enter the mix and pop up in Gamestop stores across the country, something that could help Cricket sell more devices. Gamestop has over 2,800 stores in the U.S. which makes for quite a bit more exposure on top of their own locations, which will increase Cricket’s footprint by a good margin. This partnership of course wasn’t born over night, as Cricket and Gamestop had tested the trial partnership out in a few select markets, which lead to success and now the eventual moving forward.
Gamestop already offers some decent deals on video games and video game electronics, and this is just one more way for them to be able to offer customers more value on the electronics they love according to Gamestop’s President Tony Bartel who stated, “GameStop is committed to providing our customers the greatest value and service to meet all their video game, technology and now wireless needs.”In addition to now being able to pick up phones and accessories at a great value throughout all of Gamestop’s 2,800 stores, customers will be able to bring in and sell their old phones, video games, and video game electronics to put towards in store credit and pick up new Cricket phones and accessories.
This partnership is a marriage of a value oriented wireless brand and a well known video game retail company also associated with value, so it seems fitting that Cricket Wireless should introduce people to this happy marriage and foster excitement and buzz around the partnership, by creating an interactive video game that people can actually play to experience the benefits of Cricket Wireless.
