I’ll start this one out by saying that I don’t think this is true. I just don’t see Google putting out a tablet with 5GB of RAM, especially considering the Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 from last year featured only 2GB of RAM. Of course, I wouldn’t mind the 5GB of RAM, but I really don’t think it’s needed, especially with stock Android. We first heard of the HTC Volantis earlier this month from Android Police. The Volantis is supposedly HTC’s Nexus tablet, aka the Nexus 9. The render we saw was not a final press render and could change, but it did look a lot like a larger Nexus 5. Which I’m fine with, but it did look a lot like an iPad as well. Since it does have a 4:3 aspect ratio, similar to the iPad from Apple.
Some of the specs that Evleaks leaked out today include it having a 2560×1600 resolution display when it finally launches. As well as an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. As well as 5GB of DDR3 RAM (which Evleaks says is not final), as well as 64GB of internal storage, 5MP camera and Boomsound. Most of these specs I can get behind as we’re already seeing them in flagship tablets, but the 5GB of RAM, I just don’t see that happening. Now Boomsound, that’s what we have all wanted from a Nexus tablet right? Well it looks like we are about to get it. Hopefully Google and HTC find a way to slim down the bezels though, because the HTC One M8 bezels are pretty big, understandably so though because of the front-facing speakers.
So the HTC Nexus 9 is due to come out this fall, and of course will be running on Android L. So those of you interested in a larger Nexus tablet, you’ll want to keep an eye on this one, as it’s going to be an interesting tablet, as long as it doesn’t get scraped. How many of you are interested in the HTC Volantis? Let us know in the comments below.
