Pocket Casts Developer Shares his Thoughts on Google I/O Compared to WWDC

Pocket Casts is one of our favorite apps, and it’s what many of us use to listen to podcasts. In fact, the Android Headlines show is on Pocket Casts. So go take a minute and subscribe to it. As most of you know, Pocket Casts is available on both iOS and Android. Well they started on iOS. And at WWDC this year when Apple announced iOS 8, they also showed that Pocket Casts is one of the default apps, and has much more integration than any other app thanks to Apple. This was Pocket Casts first year going to Google I/O and the developer had some interesting thoughts when comparing it to Apple’s developer conference, WWDC.

He talks about the Developer Representatives that Google has. And how they actually know how to code, and if they don’t know an answer to a question they won’t act like they do, and go get an answer for you. Compared to Apple’s Developer Reps which sound like they are just PR guys. Apple’s reps also haven’t been very helpful since Pocket Casts went to Android. Gee I wonder why? What was also interesting was the devices he saw from attendees at Google I/O this year “everyone I met at I/O was open-minded and tended to work on more than one platform. As such it wasn’t the least bit strange when someone pulled out their iPhone to check something on it. The majority of phones there seemed to be Androids, with the Nexus 5 making up the lions share of the devices I saw.”

They also talked about the swag that Google gives to developers. As most of you know, Apple doesn’t give out anything. But every year Google gives out some new goodies. This year it was either the Samsung Gear Live, or the LG G Watch along with the Moto 360. Last year, everyone got the Chromebook Pixel and the year before everyone got a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus Q and a Nexus 7.

Finally, the most exciting part for Pocket Casts was probably seeing their name in the keynote. The section about Android Auto and seeing people demoing their app on Android Auto on stage. I’d have to say that would be pretty exciting for me as well. You can read their full thoughts in the source link below.
