Google just made available part of the source code of the L release preview for current Nexus devices.
Developers and users looking to get a preview of the L release currently have only two options – the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi, devices for which Google released factory images of L release.
When the source code for other Nexus devices hit AOSP a few hours ago, there was hope that developers could use it to create full ROMs for other Nexus devices. Unfortunately, the release includes only some GPL-licensed portions of the L preview source code, meaning that it can’t be used to compile working images.
However, this is an encouraging sign that Google may offer preview images for more Nexus devices, and gives us an idea of the devices that L release will support when it lands in a few months. These are the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012) Wi-Fi and LTE, Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi and LTE, and Nexus 10.
Developers and enthusiasts can also peruse the GPL code to learn more about the inner workings of L release, so expect some news on this front in the coming days and weeks.
