Slowly but surely Google is updating their list of apps to be unified in their design from just about every possible aspect, and the latest app where we’re seeing this take place is with the Google Play Music application. Today being update Wednesday this might not be the only app we see from Google get an update, but it is the first that we’ve noticed so far. There isn’t a whole lot that looks to be changed with moving from version 5.7 to version 5.8, but any changes or improvements are welcome in our book. It should also be noted that this update is rolling out in phases, as I haven’t seen it pop up for me yet personally.
Prior to version 5.8 Google Play Music’s slide menu panel would reveal only whatever current Google account you were using with the app, with the ability to tap an arrow to display your other connected Google accounts via a drop down panel and the ability to switch between them. Now, just like with the Play Store app you’ll no longer be required to tap the arrow to expand the drop down and reveal your other Google accounts, everything will just be shown in a deeper panel as the little circle shaped buttons with your profile picture for that specific account. Google is also making other UI tweaks like updating the toggle switches within the app to evoke the Android Lollipop/Material Design style.
So far that’s all we can speak to regarding the changes, as I stated I haven’t gotten the update to the app myself so I can’t play around with it to see if there was anything else that is now different. More than likely you can expect there to be some bug fixes and improvements as there are with every single app update from Google. If we notice anything else we’ll be sure to update on the changes in full, although there probably aren’t many of them with this update to begin with. There doesn’t seem to be any new features so everything is most likely cosmetic and under the hood. Do you use Google Play Music or are you elated over another streaming music service?
