Xiaomi-Branded Ethernet Cable Listing Pops Up In China

Xiaomi is doing great business lately. This company did great in 2013 and has sold 61 million smartphones, they intend to do even better this year and sell 100 million handsets. This China-based manufacturer doesn’t sell only smartphones though, they also sell tablets, smart TVs, light bulbs, air purifiers… we’ve even shared a report yesterday that Xiaomi is working on their own quadcopter drone, which was rather surprising. Well, it looks like the company has just released something else none of you probably expected.

It seems like this Chinese smartphone vendor has released their first Ethernet cable. This cable can transmit data up to 1000 Mbps, and to ensure the high quality of the transmission, each connection is covered in 24 carat gold, which is supposed to help with interference from some outside signals. The cables are made out of copper which should prevent them from rusting. This listing appeared on iBuygou.com portal and the cable is priced at $8.99. Truth be told, I haven’t noticed any official info from Xiaomi regarding this product, so this seems somewhat odd. They haven’t mentioned this thing via social networks nor via their official Chinese website. This thing is clearly listed as the Xiaomi Ethernet Network Cable. Either way, I expect we’ll see some official info from Xiaomi soon regarding all this, but I guess there’s a possibility this is fake, either way, we’ll find out soon.

Let’s assume that this listing is actually legit, did you expect Xiaomi to launch something like this? This Chinese manufacturer has already released a ton of devices this year, they released three new smartphones in January, along with some additional hardware. The Redmi 2, Mi Note and Mi Note Pro handsets were launched, same can be said about the Mi Headphones and Mi Box Mini gadgets which Xiaomi has launched. One of company’s executives has also confirmed that they will launch some hardware in February and March as well, not to mention that the company’s CEO already teased that they’ll announce their expansion plans this month.
