Yesterday, Yahoo announced a new update to their app for Android. It brings a brand new design as well as some interactive features along with it. Yahoo refreshed the look and feel of their app by using an all new vibrant design which also brings users a more refined experience. There’s also some new interactive features, which include photo slideshows, community polls and in image slider. This is their general news app, not Yahoo News Digest, which sends you news in the morning and in the evening from various sources.
“In addition to these engaging features, we have brought our award-winning Yahoo Weather and Yahoo News Digest content to the top of the All Stories and News streams, respectively. Want to keep an eye on the stocks you follow? Swipe to the finance stream and you’ll find them at the top if you’re signed in. If you’re not, the Market Movers will be displayed at the top.”
Yahoo states that Android users in the US will see this update live now in the Play Store. It’s unclear as to when other regions of the world will see it available in their Play Store. Should be sooner rather than later though.
Back in January, Yahoo updated their iOS app with this design and interactive features, and it took them about 3 months to bring the update tot he Android version. Although the Android version does have a few features that the iOS app doesn’t have yet. It would be nice to see the iOS and Android teams working together to push out updates at the same time though, hopefully we’ll see that in the future.
This Yahoo app houses all their news, weather and even sports coverage that their editorial staff writers each and every day. While the Yahoo News Digest app curates news from various sources like CNN, Reuters, Tech Crunch, just to name a few. So there is a bit of a difference, and if you’re looking for a complete news app, then the Yahoo app is the one you’ll want to pick up. And it is completely free.
