HTC and Samsung have already announced their flagship devices for this year, but many other smartphone manufacturers have not. Sony is definitely among them, this Japan-base tech giant is struggling to turn profit in the mobile department, and are hoping that they’ll be able to balance things out this year in order to avoid any additional cutting cost strategies. That being said, we’ve talked about the Xperia Z4 many times before, unlike other OEMs, Sony launches two flagship devices per year. This won’t change in 2015, despite some rumors, Sony has confirmed that a while ago.

This means that the Xperia Z4 might land soon. Xperia Z3 launched back in September, and the Xperia Z2 was announced in February. The Xperia Z4’s launch was expected a month or two ago, but it is possible that Sony has moved the launch timeframes a little bit, but you can expect the company’s next-gen flagship to launch soon. Speaking of which, a possible Xperia Z4 has paid a visit to the FCC quite recently. Federal Communications Commission has approved a Sony-branded device by the codename PM-0780, and thus revealed some details about the device itself.

According to the FCC’s documentation, this handset supports a wide range of LTE bands along with a non-removable battery. FCC lists six different variants which have identical hardware, but the cellular radios are different. These are probably carrier versions and what not. This handset measures 73 by 146 millimeters, almost identical to the Xperia Z3. This device will also sport a microSD card and Android build number 26.1.A.0.79 is also listed. We have no way of confirming it, but this certainly sounds like the Sony’s upcoming flagship.

According to previously leaked benchmarks, the Xperia Z4 will feature a 5.1-inch 1080p display along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor will power on this device along with an Adreno 430 GPU. The 20-megapixel camera was listed as this device’s rear-facing shooter, and a 5-megapixel snapper is said to be featured up front. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop will allegedly come pre-installed here with Sony’s custom UI on top of Google’s operating system.
